Shouldn't this be in TFC?

The Super 14 game btween NSW and QLD went ahead, numbnuts.

http://www.rugby.com.au/matches/tournaments/super_12-14/2008/14_reds_v_waratahs,69535.html

e Waratahs have secured a home-semi-final with a hard-fought 18-11 victory over the gallant Reds at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night.

Having led 12-3 at the break, the Waratahs' defence held firm under heavy fire to claim their ninth win of the season and lock up second place on the Super 14 ladder.

After dominating much of the second-stanza, the Reds had the final say when former Waratah Morgan Turinui delivered a pin-point kick for winger Peter Hynes to cross well after the siren had sounded.

The Waratahs' semi-final opponent is yet to be decided with the Hurricanes, Sharks and Stormers still in the running for the post season.

There was to be no fairytale ending for departing Reds stalwarts David Croft and Sam Cordingley who bid farewell after distinguished careers for Queensland.

The Waratahs dominated territory and possession in the opening minutes of a fiery encounter but had nothing to show for their efforts as the sides remained locked at 0-0 midway through the first half.

Missed penalty goals to Kurtley Beale in the 11th and 13th minutes let the Reds off the hook, while a spate of handling errors added to the Waratahs' frustrations.

The Waratahs finally turned pressure into points in the 22nd minute when lock Dean Mumm strolled over untouched after a sustained attack deep in Reds territory.

Beale made no mistake from point-blank range to hand the visitors a 7-0 lead.

Clinton Schifcofske posted the Reds' first points of the match with a 35th-minute-penalty goal to cut the deficit to 7-3.

But the Waratahs hit back in the shadows of half-time when rampaging No.8 Wycliff Palu burst through a maul to sprint 20 metres and send his side into the sheds 12-3 ahead.

Queensland posted first points after the restart when Berrick Barnes slotted a 45th-minute-drop goal.

The match developed into an old-fashioned-arm wrestle as the Reds began to ask serious questions of the visitors' defence, but the Waratahs steadied with two penalty goals to stretch the advantage to 18-6 with 12 minutes to play.

It took Turinui's moment of brilliance after the siren to breach the visitors line, but it was too little too late for the hosts.

By the way, sh*t for brains, here's a match report on the "cancelled" game:

Tahu Crosses in HSBC Waratahs First Up Trial Win

» Back to News Listing

Sunday, 27 January 2008
NSWRU Media Unit
New recruit Timana Tahu scored with his second touch of the ball at Campbelltown Sports Stadium, as the HSBC Waratahs kicked off their 2008 Super 14 campaign with a 26-10 victory over the Queensland Reds.

Coach Ewen McKenzie used 27 players in the four-quarter match, with the Waratahs dominating possession and territory throughout to score four tries to two in an emphatic result over their arch rivals.

The Waratahs had the opportunity to take an early lead, however fly half Daniel Halangahu failed to convert a difficult 40m penalty attempt in the third minute of play. They were again denied chance for first points when Josh Valentine was brought down inches short in the 13th minute, before captain Ben Mowen was held up on the ensuing pick-and-drive.

Referee Ian Smith however brought play back for an earlier infringement, with Ben Batger taking over kicking duties and delivering a 21m penalty to give the home side a 3-0 lead, which they took into the quarter time break.

After absorbing most of the play in the opening 20 minutes, the Reds came out intent on attacking in the second half, a mindset highlighted by their choice to decline an opportunity to level the scores in favour of going for the try. A lineout win and six phases later, Henari Veratau crossed in the left corner to give the Reds a 5-3 lead in the 26th minute.

In the 32nd minute Ben Jacobs was grassed just a metre short of the goal-line, however two minutes later he delivered the final pass to Batger who scored in the right corner. He failed to convert his own try, but was successful with a penalty attempt in the 40th minute to give the Waratahs an 11-5 lead at the main break.

The second half saw one of the most anticipated moments of the 2008 season when Ewen McKenzie brought on Timana Tahu in his first appearance in Waratahs colours. And it wasn't long before the league convert made an impression, scoring with just his second touch after a great shuffle pass from Tom Carter who released Tahu on a 20m run to the line. Batger's conversion attempt failed, with the Waratahs holding a 16-5 lead in the 48th minute.

The Reds were next to score though, with Caleb Brown touching down in the left corner after the Waratahs failed to cleanly regather three consecutive kicks ahead from Andrew Walker. The scoreline remained 16-10 after Walker failed with his sideline conversion attempt.

In the final minute of the third quarter, Luke Burgess plucked a loose ball out of the air 10 metres from the Reds line and beat three defenders in an impressive dart across field to extend the advantage to 21-10 at the final drinks break.

Nine minutes from time, replacement hooker Al Manning crossed in the corner for the Waratahs extending the lead to 26-10. Ben Jacobs was handed the kicking duties, however his attempt resulted in the sixth missed conversion from as many opportunities in the match.

The HSBC Waratahs will now focus on Friday night's trial against the ACT Brumbies at Bluetongue Stadium in Gosford.

Crowd numbers are a joke. I've seen some reds games at LP that looked as if they were barely 10,000 but the crowd figure was around 20,000.

Unions here to stay.
It's died off in QLD before, no reason why it won't gtfo again.

Your right . Dare to tell us why it almost die ? Didn't had anything to do with rugby union stop its competiton for the war while rugby league took advantage of it and played on ?

Without trying to cause a sh*tfight on the topic because at the end of the day we should remember that men were losing there lives here and we should be respectful. The NZRU also played on durring WW1 as did the NZRL so the ARL in Australia wasn't alone.

If you have pay tv ( i dont) , you would see the charity shield

yes I do,

thats one game out of how many ?

you need to understand that a trial is not part of the S14s competition which is contracted to ch 10

you're firing blanks

The facts are if it was an state vs stare even though it was a pre seaon league game, it would be televise and there would have been public interest
