Just reading Sports active this morning and seen Manu was locked up for driving with no licence and in a car with no rego instead of playing in the premier league this week.

is it time to get rid of this tool?

The club tried to do the right thing by Manu, but Manu has not done the right thing by the club or the law.

Doust would have backed Manu to the hilt in an effort to show the guy he's needed in the side, but I believe he could have done his dash now. Doust will take a dim view of his antics and I'll put my money on him being quietly shown the door at the end of the season.

Here's a source for that story D2005:

Manu in custody after breaking bail conditions

By Steve Mascord

July 30, 2005

Controversial forward Willie Manu spent last night in a police lock-up instead of playing premier league for St George Illawarra.

Dragons officials confirmed that Manu, charged with causing grievous bodily harm and affray after a nightclub incident on May 22, had fallen foul of police again.

"He was an unlicensed driver driving an uninsured and unregistered car," said chief executive Peter Doust. "He was also in the company of someone which caused him to contravene his bail conditions [under the previous charge]."

Police said Manu was pulled over at 1.50pm on Illawarra Road, Port Kembla. He was refused bail and remained in custody in Wollongong last night.

Manu, a late withdrawal from the 28-18 premier league loss to the Roosters, will appear in Wollongong Local Court this morning.

"We are very disappointed that Willie would again find himself in this sort of situation with police," said Doust. "It doesn't help the benefit of the doubt we have given him so far.

"My understanding is that they weren't able to get a magistrate to hear this case in time for him to be here tonight. But you are innocent until proven guilty and assist police with their inquiries."

Asked if the person in the car was involved in the May nightclub incident, Doust said: "I would presume so given that … [police said] he was in the consort with someone who contravened bail conditions."

Manu was stood down for a week when first charged. The Dragons have since allowed him to play while legal proceedings took their course.

Meanwhile, the league's match of the round will be broadcast on radio for the first time in more than a decade as part of broadcast rights negotiations being initiated by the NRL.

League chief executive David Gallop last night revealed several conditions and clauses in the new $500 million TV deal with the Nine Network and Fox Sports, along with proposals that a large number of AM and FM radio stations broadcast games from next season.

Radio has not called Friday night matches since before the Super League war, but Gallop said: "Radio will be allowed to call the live TV game on Friday night. The second Friday night game, which Nine plans to show on delay, is likely to be still the subject of a blackout. I'm sure it will make a lot of people happy, including cab drivers, who constantly ask me why they can't listen to a call of Friday night football."

As there is only one Friday night TV game next season, radio is likely to be stopped from featuring such games for the first year of what will be three-year rights deals. Other developments revealed by Gallop include:

■ A Sydney FM station to be encouraged to broadcast Monday night football when it is re-introduced in 2007;

■ Premiership and representative league to return to ABC and SBS if Nine cannot show it at a reasonable time in "developing" league states;

■ Friday and Sunday games must be on Nine in Melbourne at the end of the last news bulletin or before midnight, whichever is earliest;

■ Origin matches must be on in Melbourne no later than 10.30pm, with "reasonable endeavours" to show them at 9.30pm;

■ Interstate clashes to be shown live or "near-live" in the rest of Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania by the ABC and SBS if Nine is unable to do so;

■ All Australian internationals in advance of the 2008 World Cup - the rights to which will be sold separately - must be shown live or "near-live" in NSW and Queensland by Nine.

■ City-Country has been preserved until 2012 - if it is cancelled, the league will lose TV rights funds - and it may be switched to a Thursday night from next season.

In other news, Manly have ruled out a return for John Hopoate.

I agree that its time to give him the flick. No good to us when he's in the lock-up.

For the record, the Premier League side went down 28-18 yesterday.

No offence but I was more interested in this part of the topic than Willie Manu. I'm glad the NRL are finally doing something to expand the game, and these are sensible and useful methods of doing so.

"As there is only one Friday night TV game next season,"
