Mmmm... nobody seems to have read the article. Its saying that he will play in the backs?? Surely not?

Im no rah rah fan, but surely Willie in the backline would be a defensive liability that no coach would like. Sure have him run out wide in attack a few times, but defending against someone with a bit of toe would be laughable.

From all reports, they're going to play him in the centres.

What?

Next they'll be signing Danny Wicks...

With French Union now having a 8M Euro salary cap, the figures discussed in that article mean they would be paying 4 players the equivalent of 50% of the cap.

Maybe they should call themsleves the Toulon Gold Coast Suns and consider a 40 point loss a "good result".

Not close; Roger Millward, Arthur Beetson, Gavin Miller (first time), Clive Sullivan would all be above Mason imo.

Certainly the biggest in the modern era though.

No sympathy for Hull KR whatsoever. They bent the rules to get him here and they then bent the rules to allow him to make his debut whilst de registering Dobson. He has been next to useless since his first game. I'd prefer it if they kept him to be honest. Did Gavin Miller have two spells at Rovers? I can only remembeer the one.

I wish Willie all the best in his retirement. I think it's great that french yawnion can offer a bucket load of cash to a has been ( although once great player). If more retiring Rugby League players took up the cash on offer in yawnion, then this would mean there would be less available for development in the devil's code. I do feel a bit sorry for Hull KR, but overall I think it's a win-win for Rugby League

He hasn't signed yet, don't really give a f**k if he does. Hull KR have probably got all the benefit they are going to get from him in terms of merchandise and sponsorships, and he won't be missed on the field. If anything this might be a good thing for Hull KR as the salary cap space could probably be better spent.

It's is Hull Kr's fault for signing such an arrogant and self centred player who was also over the hill three seasons ago. They knew what he was getting. Why would a club ever sign someone like Mason?

Mason has been cut from the squad to allow Rovers to re-register Michael Dobson, who is fit again, and Rovers have indicated that they don't have any plans to attempt to re-register him unless he receives his Tongan passport. They obviously aren't too interested in keeping him.

Amazing isn't it, Mason has already played his last game with HKR and the club has said they will not be re-registering him.
A more mature Matt Cook and an exciting prospect in Scott Taylor is way more important than Willie Mason.

Nope, gone to Rah Rah

Big Willie Mason has signed a three-year, £1.7 million deal with Fench Rugby Union side Toulon, and is set to play against international opponents straight away.

Following on from the Hull KR Club Statement yesterday about his departure, Mason is already scheduled to play for the Barbarians against England at Twickenham next Sunday and then again against Wales on Saturday, June 4.

''If you ask all the boys, I've always told them I've wanted to have a crack at rugby, and I've always been the type to jump in at the deep end, and I'm ready to try the best I can to make an instant switch..'' Mason is already being recognised in Toulon.

''I walk around and they say, 'Mason, Mason' ... they call me 'Machine' wherever I go. It's really quite amazing how much they're into rugby here.''

Mason also claims he has not been paid by Super League club Hull KR for the past two months.

''I'm not happy about that at all ... 'Keeno' (his manager) can look after that,'' Mason said.

We're unsure about the circumstances around Hull KR not paying Willie for the past 2 months, he was de-registered a month ago so that could have contributed to at least 1 month of the 2.
