Wingers 2025

Has there been a role with less clarity in recent years?

1. Rava
2. CT
3. Feagai
4. Finau
5. Lawson
6. Allen
7. Sloan
8. Ramsey

No one has a spot locked up. Whichever way you spin it, 4 of the above will be missing out on even playing NSW cup.

Personally i would start the year with experience in the position such as CT and Feagai. Unless someone like Allen blitzes pre-season and trials.

IMO, Sloan and Lawson need to prove themselves in NSW cup.

Am i missing anyone? Thoughts?

I love CT for the passion he brings but let's be realistic, there is more talent in there. Sloan I'd say will end up being on one wing depending on how his preseason goes.

The other wing is very hard to tell. Lawson will probably end up there at some point but apart from that, it'll be hard to tell whether Finau or Rava (depending on how he goes) gets a run. I like Feagai but at the end of the day, he is depth.

It wont be a problem
Ramsey wont play 80 mins in grade this year (i hope I am wrong)
Feagai, Allen and Lawson can all play centres or wing in Reggies. Rava one wing
Sloan Finau & CT battling wing with Lawson later

Ramsey wont even be in mix this year probably, CT will have a good lock on 1 spot leaving Sloan and Allen to fight out the other one. As he finds his feet in league I reckon Lawson will get a go.
Lawson's skills fit more to a Rugby League centre. I'm not saying this for 2025 but definitely by 2026. He is big, fast, skilful, strong, aggressive and is equally adept at running into holes or setting up his team mates so they can run into holes. Has the power running, but can also step, swerve, fend and seems to gain speed at the precise moment he meets the defence. I bet he has a kicking game of sorts. Extremely versatile.

No promising young centres that should be getting time in NSW Cup?

Imo:
Ramsey won't play, at least in '25

First grade will probably be Sloan and CT

Koe Cup will be interesting:
Feagai can play centre or fullback, as can Allan
Finau would be 1 wing (and I hope he's knocking on the door of 1st grade)
That leaves Rava and Lawson for the other. Methinks they will transition Rava into a running forward, so that means Lawson on the other wing, however, I'm not sure it will be like that straight out of the box.

So, hypothetical backline would be:
1. Feagai
2. Finau
3. Allan
4. Buchanon (?)
5. Lawson
6. LKT
7. Glover

14-17 - Rava

Sloan and Lawson should be the standout wingers in pre-season trials. I am very confident they will end up being our winger combination.

Still waiting to see some evidence that Sloane can perform as an NRL winger. At this point I think those two players have a combined one game of experience at NRL level (on wing).
Lawson named as a winger in the World Rugby 7s Team of The Year. Does an 11 second 100m and started his career in the forwards. He is big, fast and can tackle but who knows if he can jump? Overall, I am optimistic.

Sloan? I don't know. Can he carry the ball up to the forwards, jump, and tackle? He had better, bcs there are 3 or 4 guys after his job.

I have visions of him being dragged into touch a lot.

I have a feeling Lawson will be a gun winger. Heaps of strength, height and aerial skills as well as abundant speed.
I hope you are correct Rocket. I expect Coach Flanno will have him running the sand hills (what is left of them) preparing to transition from 14 minutes of Union to eighty minutes of Rugby League.

Very true GS it’s a completely different game isn’t it and interesting that he didn’t pursue a career in the 15 aside version. However I’m confident Flanagan has seen enough in him to warrant giving him a chance.

Sloan as winger is an interesting option, more likely to be our back-up fullback though I think.

Looks like we have some strength in depth at winger for the first time in a while. Savvy management and recruitment from Flanagan. Just more continued gradual improvement of the squad. Very slow and very gradual, but we’re definitely improving.

As well as the improvement to our recruitment, we now have some genuinely exciting youngsters coming through over the next 2 years or so. The club should get some credit for this.

I see the recruitment of NL as a contrast to Flanno’s normal conservative style of buying experienced players who have proven their capability and not offering more than what he believes is the player’s worth. This recruitment tells me that Flanno is prepared to take the odd gamble when he thinks the opportunities outweigh the possible losses.
