With The First Overall Selection in the 2006 Draft, You Select......?

I know we're still months from draft day, but with the combine workouts starting there's a bit of a buzz starting about who'll go where and when...

Just thought I'd start this thread to see who everyone (at this early stage)would take if they were the GM of the Houston Texans.

For mine, I would take RB Reggie Bush.

I think the Texans have a decent QB in David Carr who might just explode with a little more support and another "go to guy" like Bush.

You're on the clock......;-)

It seems almost certain that it'll be Bush, as the Texans have picked up the option in Carr's contract. However, if I had my way I'd go with Matt Leinart.

Reggie Bush for sure, but unless they do something to upgrade their offensive line he won't be much use to them.

Mike Sherman, the former Packers coach, will be working with their O-line this year.

They let in 68 sacks last year, 14 more than anyone else. Holy moly...

im a huge USC fan so i love reggie and leinart, but if my team (the raiders) had the first pick, i would want them to draft vince young first.

however the texans will pick bush. my preferences in order would be:

Vince Young (QB)- in the same league as vick in scrambling but he can actually pass, future hall of famer.

Matt Leinart (QB)- a real winner, great leader and has a cannon arm. comes up big in the clutch.

Lendale White (RB)- Backup running back to reggie bush at USC, where reggie can only work well in certain programs, Lendale will go well anywhere, he will have a more illustrious career then reggie.

Reggie Bush (RB)- i know it seems im dissing him, but the guy can play, if he gets put into the right football program he will win the mvp 3 or more times. however i think he will struggle at the texans unless they adjust to make reggie comfortable.

AJ Hawk (LB)- this guy is f**king awesome, best player on defense in all of college football in my opinion. I can definetly see him going to oakland.

D'Brickashaw Ferguson (OT from Virginia Tech) is the consensus 4th best player in this draft, seemingly no thought of the Texans drafting him though.

Interesting point Sunny....Maybe another option for the Texans would be to trade their first overall, move down a few places (not too many) and perhaps pick up a guy like D'Brickshaw as well as another guy as part of a trade??

Another issue for management to consider is that if they dont take Reggie or Vince Young the fans won't be happy!

Apparently they might be looking for West Coast-style linemen (with Kubiak being the new coach and all) in free agency. Two of our guys, Matt Lepsis and Tom Nalen, have been mentioned, along with Kevin Shaffer of the Falcons.

Jay Cutler is moving up in everyones draft boards. with good reason too, hes mobile has probably the strongest arm in the draft and has good accuracy, i think if he went to a USC or Texas, that hed be in the same place as a vince young or matt leinart. Mario Williams seems like a good draft choice. i think the jets will be choosing between Williams and Cutler.

I would take Vince Young. We (Ravens) have a great RB already, and the only missing piece in our team is a quarterback. If Boller can step up, great...but I don't know if he can.

i think if cuhlpepper is to leave the vikings, he will go to the ravens.

Hmm...is that a good thing? I mean, he threw about 1,000 interceptions last year without Randy being there. If he can forge a partnership similar to that with Derrick Mason, the Ravens will do very very well if they pick him up.

Miami are keen on Culpepper too.......I'd rather they got Cutler in the draft though, but somehow I think they're too far down, even if they trade up.

I heard that Vince Young won't be throwing at the combine, maybe his passing isn't all that its cracked up to be?

Young is a very good player but abit raw in my opinion, great scrambling QB but I still have question marks over his passing, he's also runs shot gun a few too many times.

I think Leinart would be a safer pick, I can see him being a 10 year starter, IMO if he gets a good O line and decent receivers to throw to and also a decent running back behind him he could be a better player than say Ben Roethlisberger.

If I were the Texans I'd treade reggie for a few o lineman. I rate Dom Davis, and Carr in my opinion is only a good o line away from being a top notch QB. Hell with his sh*tty o line he's got right now I'm surprised carr is still alive.

yeah if i was miami, id throw everything i could at one of these clubs getting rid of a good qb to get a brees, pennington, cuhlpepper or mcnair. the dolphins are going to be playoff contenders and gus ferotte isnt the guy to get them there, although if they are to get cuhlpepper, then ferotte will be a good replacement until culhpepper is back on his feet in about round 8 i believe.

I still think its in the best interests of the ravens to go over cuhlpepper, i know cuhlpepper wants to stay in minnesota, but its really not up to him, if tyhe vikings want to trade him, he will be traded. personally i think its ridiculous u would trade a Daunte Culhpepper just because you want to start BRAD JOHNSON? the guy won a sb and he was in form at the end of last year, but he has nowhere near the amount of talent that daunte has.

Vince Young has a very unorthidox style of throw and at the combine, these things are over analyzed. look at brady, coaches over analyzed some of his short comings and he ended up being drafted in the 6th round and as we all know, he shoulda been a first rounder easily.

It looks like Brees will hit the open market and is ahead of schedule with his shoulder rehab.
