Warrington Wolves have been crowned the first-ever Physical Disability Rugby League (PDRL) World Club Champions.

The Wire side - which included comedian and Last Leg presenter Adam Hills and former England international Shaun Briscoe - beat South Sydney Rabbitohs 34-12 at the ANZ Stadium in Sydney.

Anthony Seward's opening try and two scores from Will Maudsley put Wire 18-6 ahead at half-time.

Maudsley completed his hat-trick, before Luke Potter and Seward went over to seal the win.

Seward has a round trip of 450 miles from his home in Devon to Warrington in order to train and play for the team, who are the top-ranked side in England.

PDRL sees teams of nine players play on a full-length Rugby League pitch, which is reduced in width by five metres on either side.

Two players are able bodied and cannot travel more than 10 metres with the ball and are unable to score points, while two players play under tag rules.

The remaining five players play under full contact and have a range of disabilities including visual impairments, limb deficiencies and brain injuries.

Only on and and the show spics and specks... I'd say B grade celebrtity
Maybe that’s why he’s done OK in the UK. We’re full of C and D grade “celebrities”. I don’t mind Hills but he’s a bit too left wing for me (politically not rugby league wise).

I like Adam Hills. Great to see him supporting rugby league and especially PDRL.
He’s had Rusty on his U.K. show talking Souths (RL was incidental). He’s also been on a nationwide programme talking about the PDRL and was on the BBC’s coverage of the Challenge Cup Final talking about the PDRL WCC match.

He’d be a solid B+ at least.
he is well known for his stand up as well as his Spicks n Specks TV show. To the UK people that was a copy of Never Mind the Buzzcocks; pretty much.
He even got a ‘Who do you think you are’ episode.

He came on the Sunday Footy Show (the one that talks footy) here a few weeks ago and talked about the Warrington Souths game. Came straight from the game, proud of his special Warrington polo shirt with an additional black Rabbit logo. It was a very good and inspirational segment.

In his piece at the Challenge Cup Final, prior to the game, he said the intention was for him to actually play for Souths in one half as they were the team he’s followed since childhood but he said that because he had formed a bond with the Warrington team there was no way he could play against them. He also told how as a kid he would regularly kick with his prosthetic foot but as he grew older he started breaking them and basically had to give the game up until the PDRL came along.
