Who is basking in the glory of their latest win, against union minnows Spain? I think the score was 92-10.

And they get up us for having a World Cup with Lebanon and Russia in it!

The Wallabies have been embarrassingly mistaken for the All Blacks during their time in Spain.
In the build-up to the test in Madrid, Wallaby coach Eddie Jones was asked by a Spanish rugby reporter if his team would be doing the haka before the match.
Jones replied by saying his team will have to start practicing.
It's understood another reporter asked which player was Jonah Lomu.
Australia won this morning's test by a record 92-10 - and for the record - they didn't do a pre-match haka.

It was funny listening to the commentators, who at one stage weresaying that this was a better attaking and defenive game than the76-0(?) win over England.

Bomber - i hope you opening post was (slightly) tongue in cheek.

As one of the 'rugby' heads on this forum I have to respond.

When did the World Champ Kangaroo's travel to a 'minnow' nation just for a game of footy??

If the ARL sent their team to Russia for a one off game.....

well the possibilities are endless arent they?

Hazy, can't we get our own back. We'll see if any of the media ridicule this game for it's scoreline, it's small crowd, it's existance! It shits me that fox friggin sports has this game twice today, a NZ club game and a pommie club game of union but when the kangaroos played PNG , nothing! France come out and play NZ and PNG , nothing! England plays Wales, nothing! GB play France , nothing! We have a world cup and it's not enough that biased pro union media bag it but some league media types put the boot in. Misinformation mongerers contrived that the russian team was made up of aussies (most of the team spoke only russian), chuckled about australian born players lining up for Ireland ,etc (Henry Paul ?english born and bred obviously, the japanese RU side- I thought Japan retreated from the pacific islands in WW2), sountil Spain offers some real competionto sides other than Lichtenstein we'll give as good as we get,
cheers, Global 13.

Just another point global 13, how about the commentators?? Fox Sports would have to have the most annoying commentators in the world. The way they were jibbering off about the 'enthusiastic' union crowd was laughable. 99% of them wouldn't have had a bloody idea what was going on. It was held in a frigging university as well, most of the crowd would've been ex-pats from the motherland and uni students.
Hazy, i can appreciate what you are saying, the Kangaroos have a much bigger responsibility to the growth of the international game. If the aussies went to russia, they would pack out the stadium. The student RL games in Russia a couple of months ago drew 15,000 to one game.....and that is just with students playing

Sorry Hazy, I get myself worked up.Apart from crap media coverage, rugby league undersells and under promotes itself. Basically a joke governing body (RLIF) and division in control in australia, england and france is of no help at all, but all is not lost . As previously mentioned the potential is there in russia, north america, everywhere, I just hope these aren't lost opportunties,
cheers, Global 13.

I watched the game and was baracking for Spain all the way. Sure they were never going to win cause that was pretty obvious - they are not even in the top 20. But the fact that they scored a try and kept the Wallabies scoreless for 20 minutes in the 2nd half was something very good to see. The spin off effects of this game should have a good impact in Spain. A good crowd of 8,000 turned up and it looked like the game was shown on local TV which can only be good for rugby.

Some of you leaguies can laugh about the scoreline (hey I would too!) but the fact that the best rugby nation in the world played Spain in SPAIN mind you, is something that I applaud cause something like this can do wonders for rugby in Spain.

Marcus, mate i dont agree with you on a lot of things but your point about big nations playing minnows is spot on. The Wallabies are doing the right thing by promoting the sport (or trying to) in these developing countries. It is something the ARL should definitely consider in the future.
To be honest though Marcus, alot of them didn't look like they knew what the hell was going on and i know i wouldn't get excited about a game where my country was getting a flogging. It doesnt matter what sport it is, seeing your country get whacked by 80 points can't be much fun!

Actually I think the crowd knew quite a bit. Okay so they are not knowledged enough yet, but I think more than 60% of them probably knew the rules. I saw quite a few rugby shirts in the crowd probably those from the local clubs so there is a few hardcore fans.

I think the Spainish already knew they would get flogged even before the game started, but as long as they scored a try (which they did - Ole!...ole!...ole!) it would make the crowds day.

I agree that it is a joke that they seem to be showing many crappy union games on Foxtel and we can't even see big League Tests such as PNG vs Australia and GB vs France. Has anyone got a good email adress for Fox, I really feel like giving them a roasting. For a while I was sending emails to Fox, mainly about their terrible coverage on the Super League, but the email adress, nrl@foxtel.com.au, has stopped working. But I think we won the battle, with live telecasts and full replays the day after, of the Super league finals. Much better than what we got for the Challenge Cup, delayed for 6 days

Hazy,

Very much so. Whilst I agree that it's good for other minnow nations to have a go against the 'establishment', if I were a rugby fan I wouldn't be getting wet in the pants about the test victory. The tongue-in-cheekness comes from the press bashing the RLWC for all it's worth and then glorifying the Wallabies the next for a win against a side that would probably have trouble beating a reserve grade team in Australia.

I also doubt that if the Wallabies were not playing England, Wales and France (?) they would make a trip especially to Spain.

Cheers

Bomber - I also doubt that the Wallabies would just travel to Spain. No matter how high and mighty they get about spreading the 'word', the ARU still worries about their bottom line.
