What?

A direct quote to emphasise just how stupid the post i was replying to was.

Or some kind of grammar point?

Discussions are boring when someone doesn't say anything.

Disagreeing with a point of view does not make it "stupid". Do you honestly think a rugby league " champions league" is conceivable?

Spanish champions versus south Sydney? French champions versus Wire? (If and when wire win a title).

Nice idea, if rugby league was football

Does anyone want to see a comp where the champions from smaller leagues play against teams from 'bigger' leagues?

Your right that would be geniused.
Lucky for the RL we have let the idiots at Uefa do something instead. As if anyone would ever care about that!

Send the best Pommy Soccer teams over to play our best and you'd probably fill the MCG . . . at least on one weekend a year

Yeah but you are talking about soccer teams that are known all over the world, I mean I know a lot of the top soccer teams and I hate the sport. That is not the case with the NRL teams, only certain teams have a huge following over seas or are just well known brands.

Also another way to look at it, hypothetically Man City is dominating the world of soccer in the UK, Man United is going ok, nothing spectacular, and not badly, which team honestly puts more bums on seats in Australia? sometimes it's not about sending the best, it's about sending the biggest.

Holding the point of view that holding a comp where the champions or top clubs of one country, plays the champions or top clubs of another is 'geniused', is stupid. It happens all the time in lots of sports.

Spanish champs vs south Sydney? Doesn't deserve a comment.

But...
A top French club vs Wire?

Add a top nz team vs a top Aus team,
With two Aus team vs England team matches,
Winners into a semi followed by a final.

I'd say that was conceivable.

So how do you get more recognition?

Which Saints game do you think helped grow the rabbits brand more around the world, the charity shield or the world club championship?

I'm just discounting the argument that the WCC is irrelevant, the best games were the two most denigrated before the event. The content is what matters not the result, having 3 games like the last would achieve sfa. As you say, the Mighty Red V, Bennett's Broncos as opposed to Hook's Broncos and the 43 year old virgins are what the Poms will turn up to see

The WCC is primarily about enhancing the game of Rugby League, not proving a point, the small section of the English population that watch League are extremely knowledgeable. They know what they're facing, no need for Aussie wankers to take the piss out of people that are warm hearted, enthusiastic in their support and making the best out an unfortunate situation

Reports that the WCS matches attracted similar TV ratings to the Super Leauge Grand Final, and a highlights show got a nationwide FTA broadcast (a big deal over here) and apparently attracted over 1 million viewers.

Just a shame the flogging was the game showcased .
Wouldn't it have great if Broncos Wigan was the world club challenge game.
That would have been great publicity.

Oh well, cant have everything, back to the grinding stone elma.

blow outs happen in RL, we'll see plenty in the NRL this year. Scoreline aside everything else about it was great and once again the nay sayers are left with egg on their face. Rothfield thinks its a waste of time, that should be enough to justify its value!

If we get away from expecting it to be a measure of what club is the strongest in the world and move into the paradigm that it showcases the best of RL to another country/countries (would love to see Roosters playing in France next year) then the measurement of success becomes more valid.

As said when Liverpool play in Oz it isn't to see if Aleague is up to EPL standard, it is to showcase the game, make some money and get some publicity. the result is largely irrelevant.

ps the International game should be for measuring the quality of players against each other. nation v Nation, that's what gets the country excited and backing a sport.

Good point. Champions play champions in some other sports. They also don't in others. Having a load of the best darts players playing in a league works. We should probably do the same with crown green bowls or curling. That'd definitely work, because it works in Darts. geniused. Fanciful, ridiculous. Whatever term you want to use. Its an idea that wouldn't last five minutes in rugby league.

Again, nice idea, if it were in any way a level playing field, like in football. But aussie clubs have over double the financial resources than superleague and superleague resources dwarf those of developing nations.

I'd sooner see a British based NRL club with the same salary cap

So what you are saying is an idea about having a collection of teams playing in a league wouldn't last 5 mins in rugby league? Comps only work if every team is the same? And instead of UK teams playing NRL teams once a year you would rather we destroy the SL comp by having an all star team that go to the other side of the world for half a season?

Awesome.

Oh and football level?!

I can't even be bothered anymore, you have taken the fun out of this thread by being as intelligent as a brush.

Once again Wireman, just because you disagree with something doesn't make it stupid or unintelligent.

I thought the three games were great viewing and the British crowd great. One reason to leave the series in Britain vs moving to Las Vegas or Brisbane.

As for the Souths V St Helens , sure a close game would have added more flavour to the game and crowd. However I thought it was still a great advertisement for the game. St Helens tried hard all game and were touches away from three tries ( the ref gave them 2 of them only to be reversed by video).

As for Souths , well they almost played a perfect game in defence and attack. Tries from pinpoint kicks, lucky bounces and great back line movement.

A great advertisement of the game for neutral fans in Britain and anywhere else broadcasted.

As for the scoreline , i saw similar results when Souths played Manly, Roosters and Bulldogs in the finals and i do not recall folks lamenting that the games should not have been played.
