That pack is as good as anything Tonga & Samoa have on offer.
Which frankly is right up there with what almost any country will be able to offer. I'm not sure they have the play makers to win the whole thing but they're looking to be a dangerous side and could cause a boil over.

Fiji have announced a 34 man initial squad. Final 24 to be announced by 25th September according to this article.
Backs:
1 Kevin Naiqama
2 Marcelo Montoya
3 Maika Sivo
4 Semi Valemei
5 Waqa Blake
6 Taane Milane
7 Mikaele Ravalawa
8 Braydon Wakeham
9 Sitiveni Moceidreke
10 Netane Masima
11 Isaac Lumelume
12 Sunia Turuva
13 Vuate Karawalevu
14 Jason Qareqare
15 Ratu Inoke Vasuturaga
16 Ilaitia Moceidreke

Forwards:
1 Apisai Koroisau
2 Joe Lovodua
3 Penioni Tagituimua
4 Tariq Sims
5 Viliame Kikau
6 Daniel Saifiti
7 Jacob Saifiti
8 Ben Nakubuwai
9 Tui Kamikamica
10 Korbin Sims
11 King Vuniyayawa
12 Reagan Campbell Gillard
13 Taniela Sadrugu
14 Pio Maisamoa Seci
15 Joseph Ratu Vakacereivalu
16 Lamar Manuel Liolevave
17 Siua Wong

RCG & Koroisau are a fair chance of an Australian spot and Daniel Saifiti has said he isn’t playing in the World Cup. Tariq sims hasn’t played for Fiji since 2013 but it is probably his last World Cup, RCG last played for Fiji in 2014 so might not be interested even if he misses a Kangaroos spot.

Even so still pretty strong. Ideal best 17:

1. Turuva
2. Sivo
3. Blake
3. Montoya
5. Ravalawa
6. Lovodua
7. Wakeham
8. D Saifiti
9. Koroisau
10. Campbell-Gillard
11. Kikau
12. T Sims
13. Kamikamica
14. Tagituamua
15. J Saifiti
16. Nakubuwai
17. Vuniyayawa

Wong, Milne, Sadrugu, Naiqama, K Sims, Liolevave, QareQare to round out the squad.

Funnily enough I don’t think Naiqama should be in the 17 at full strength but he will be because he is captain, if they play him at 6 again they’ll struggle.

Naiqama should start at 1 or 6. He has never played a bad game for Fiji and is the heart of that team and rightful captain. A Koroisau and Lovodua combo at 9 and roving middle is pretty exciting. IF only they had some quality in the halfs.

His game at 6 this year was pretty poor. Nothing against him but he isn’t a 6. Lovodua has played there plenty of times this year for Hull so he should partner Wakeham if Koroisau plays. Turuva has earned the #1 too and has played the majority of his games the last 2 years in that position.

Naiqama will be there because he is captain, best spot for him is probably centre. Again though Blake, Montoya, Valemei and Milne have all started games in the NRL at centre this year whilst Naiqama has only gotten a few starts on the wing for the Roosters.

Korisau probably getting squeezed out with Grant/Hunt and most likely Cook in the squad. Not such a bad thing if he plays for Fiji.

And that's the world cup winning team. Big mobile forwards and skillful spine.

Hopefully Riki makes the final team, a ridiculous athlete underutilised by the Broncos.

Am I right that rugby league is now the number 1 sport played by Maori and pacific islanders in new Zealand?

Looks like Payne Haas might be playing for samoa. He's given time to decide if he wants to commit to the kangaroos and they have Lindsay Collins on the side in case he doesn't. That would be a huge for samoa if he commits

That's a strong squad. Royce Hunt and Faitala-Mariner must be playing for samoan. Lacking depth on the wing and fullback. That's the strongest Kiwis team I've seen in years

Yeh back 3 a bit weak outside of first choicers evidently with CNK & Simonsson there. Centres looking good now with Kris, Timoko & Hiku all in form. Didn’t know About Kris being keen to play for NZ.

That Kiwi pack is insane! If they can stay out of the sinbin they will be punishing.
Back line arent anything that exciting though. Manu, Brown, Hughes, Smith. Not a bad spine if they can jell!

I highly doubt it. Most rugby teams in NZ at all levels are filled with Maori and PI, there's just more Pakeha playing as well (especially in the SI). In many regions most of the league players play rugby anyway at school and club level.
