Wales got a hiding last year and have asked not to play the big guns for three years..

This was for a very good reason, in Wales we currently have a big push on youth development and these are our stars of the future. Playing them against Oz of NZ would ruin the hard work that has gone it to the plans. However, if Wales did field a team of fit players including our ESL players we would beat Ireland, PNG, lebanese, France, Russia and we have proved it before when it counts. Looks at our World Cup results!!!

Mate I have no doubt they will do well at the world cup...but to say they are fourth?! I dont think so...i think maybe 6 at the moment on the back of the last two European Cups...

How many people play the game in Wales and Juniors??

I agree with BB's sentiments that team's must be judged on results not on 'potential test lineups' such as people are so keen on doing with theblikes of Tonga and Samoa etc.

However, I also agree with teh sentiment that rates the French at no. 4 in the world even though they've taken their fair share of lickings over the past few years.

However, by 2006 they will be only the fourth world nation running a fully profesional club outfit and the sheer size and structure of the French league means they must be judged as fourth best. By 2006 their results will show that too, I'm certain.

Lebanon crushed the best - the best - French Test side in 2002. They then handily defeated a mixed French side (officially billed as 'France', as oppose to the 'Blue XIII' that did well against the Kangaroos on the same weekend.

This year they crushed a side featuring Cedric Gay, Rachid Hechiche, Aurelion Cologni, Fab Estabanez, another veteran international prop (name....??!!), the two gun props Martins and Casty and the best French youngster ofg the modern era......ooooh, I've forgotten his name, he played lock v Oz! Not an Espoir side really, but certainly not the Test team, I grant you.

I would say that as PNG don't really play Lebanon demands the respect of RL fans for doing things, getting rtesults and spreading the code, and for those reason deserves to be considered as fourth best in the world.

6th behind who? The Euro cup is excellent for player development but it is the World Cup that counts and nothing else. As for France, total hype and nothing else, their team will prop up the ESL for many years until they have had enough and quit. We've seen it before.
I'm sick to death of coming on this International section only to see people harping on about teams from Serbia, Holland, Greece, Malta etc. League will never take off in these places and we are kidding ourselves. International League should try to walk before it can run. Firstly we need the top flight sorted out before the lower/non playing nations.

I can go wherever I want and I am entitled to my two cents. And as for naming Welsh players it isn't exactely hard seeing as I am Welsh. Its like asking an Aussie league fan if he knows any Aussie players

But disco1 the RFL is trying to get the Euro Cup to a stage where it will matter who wins it. Same with the Med CUp. After years of growth these tournaments can eventually become closely fought, money making affairs that form the backbone of international league for the vast majority of league countries.

l think all but one of the games got over 1,000 people to it??

2004
France v England 4,000
Ireland v Scotland 600
Scotland v Wales 1,047
Russia v England 1,000
Wales v Ireland 1,296
Russia v France 2,000

9,943

England v Ireland (Final) 3,502

13,445
Average: 1,921 per game

2003
Wales v Russia 1,100
Scotland v Ireland 1,123
Ireland v France 1,082
England v Russia 1,376
France v Scotland 2,200
England v Wales 2,124

9,005
England v France (Final) 2,536

11,541
Average: 1,649

2004 - 2003
1,921 - 1,649 = 272

Average of 272 more people at the 2004 European Cup!

I think England needs to stay in the European Cup as them and France attracted the best Crowds....

Country by Country

France increase by 55%
Russia average of 1,500
England increase of 57%
Ireland drop by 55%
Scotland drop by 7%
Wales increase by 18%

It maye be only 272 more people per game...but its a start...Well done European Cup teams....look forward to next years results
