To be honest to Wally when I read his biography it came across as if he didn’t want to coach at all and got unwillingly pushed into it. Lowe left after the 1992 defeat and all the qld officials eyed Lewis off until he said yes. Wally himself said he was a failure and that Phil Gould was above his coaching ability in every wayI remember on the Sunday Footy Show (I think it was) Wally was talking about his time coaching the Seagulls and you could tell how much he still regretted it. The panel immediately took on this hushed, almost melancholy tone. Then Wally finished speaking and it was dead silent for a moment. Then Joey says "Yeah, well we've all done stuff we regret".
