I often wonder if the standard of football would be higher if annual contract payments were lower and players received match payments for a winning performance? There would obviously be a few variables to consider, eg. payments being based on a percentage of the contract rate, and some form of compensation to injured players, etc. etc. It would certainly make a difference in the back end of a season when a side knows it can't make the top 8, but there is still a dollar incentive to get out and win games, and probably keep crowd numbers a bit higher as a result. Thoughts?
