 This topic just cracks me up. Everyone was saying how much we were going to miss him. It's so obvious Johns made him look good.

LOL!

I was glad to see the back of him!

And I have already made my feelings on him coming back quite clear! NO WAY IN HELL!

The Dragons took back Blacklock, can't see why we wouldn't want Rudder back. :|

Mr Castleford said:
He has thrown at least 1 interception per game and the only passes he does, loop and before our player has a chnce to get there the balls gone and the other team are under the sticks!

This type of pass is called "the hospital ball", simply because all receivers of such a ball get smashed a split second after they catch the ball. The only exception to this is when an intercept is achieved, and hence there is minimal risk of injury unless the interceptor is uncoordinated enough to trip over his own shoelaces on the jog to the tryline.

Sean Rudder was the chief exponent of this type of pass, specifically the right-to-left pass, which may explain why players like Mark Hughes and Adam MacDougall were so injury-proned - regularly smashed due to the long wait for the ball to arrive.

Sean, I believe, would be better suited in the 2nd row or lock

This is the point several forrumers have made over the years of Rudder's involvement with the Knights. His performances in the 2nd row were pretty solid - he could run off the odd inside-ball or just linger around in broken play looking for an opportunity in space. Provided his defence held up, he was quite a decent backrower.

Unfortunately he often found himself in the number 6 jersey, alongside Johns whose performances made every player in the team look of international standard.

It is only now, having moved from a good club, that Rudder's true abilities in the halves are being exposed. He is a capable second rower playing out of position - the argument was expressed time and time again.

If he's still wearing the #6 their is a fair chance you wont be in the mood to tell us how he plays...

Yep he played in the halves again. We lost the game 24-6.

He plaayed again poorly. His kicking game is poor and his passing was poor. Not a stand off halve at all!!

Cas Fan - What's your halfback like?

It's pretty obvious that you guys are blaming Rudder and to a certain degree your own coach for the poor start to the season but in all honesty Sean isn't the only player on your team.

Here at the Knights Sean played along-side the Best Halfback in the World, of course he was going to look good! What this meant though, was that he was never going to be expected to guide the team round, set up plays or be the dominant player in the team.

We've been watching him play for years and most are of the opinion that his whole game was poor and not of NRL quality while others of us think he has limited talent but needs to be utilized in a more bash & barge type role.

Ultimately, I think you Castleford fans need to be more concerned about your defense. There are 17 players running out in your strip each game. You can't honestly tell me that Sean is the sole reason your team lets in a minimum of 20 points per game.

Not all the blame is on Sean. The coach gets a degree of stick because he is the 1 that coaches them, gets them motivated etc. Apparently our play is supposed to be focused around on what Rudder does and quite frankly he has done nothing what so ever since his arrival.

The role of 5/8th is practically dead here in NRL. Most teams have a dominant halfback and a pedestrian 5/8.

If the English game is focusing on making the 5/8th the dominant player then you guys will definately be in for a season of sorrow.

It's unfortunate that I don't get ESL coverage here in NZ as I was looking forward to keeping tabs on Sean during the ESL season but from what I've read on your forum as purely a fans prospective, it's almost a flash back to our old Official Knights forum.

Keep in mind though, attack is only one half of a footy game. Can you honestly say that your defense is as good or improved on from last year?

Castleford have never had a top class defence but this season it seems it has just gone downhill completely.

Dont worry about not getting the games...i will keep you updated with Seans performances..not that they will be worth talking about

Thanks for that.

I've been lurking on the Tigers forum since before the season kicked off but until I actually get to see some ESL coverage I figure I don't have much to contribute.

Do you guys face relegation if you finish last on the table this season (not wishing to make it happen, please understand)?

Taking Sean out of the equation for just a moment, how is the rest of the team performing. If you had a decent 5/8 do you have the speed out wide in the centres and wings to be scoring tries? Are your forwards making big metres? Does your halfback have the skills to be an attacking asset to the team?

I sympathise with your lack of defense, it appears the Knights are having their own defensive crisis atm and due to the season ending injury to Andrew Johns we will be going through a grim period ourselves while our new half & 5/8 combo sort themselves out.

I wish you luck, keep the faith and look forward to that initial win which will taste all the sweeter for having stuck with the team during the hard times.

Yea we will face relegation if we finish bottom. There seems to be one worse team than us this season and thankfully i think they will go down.

We signed Craig Greenhill from Hull fc (dont know if you know him?) and he was supposedly bought in to make metres but has so far done nothing. We just seem to be lacking something and us fans have no idea what that is

Thanks for the luck and i just hope we can get that first win and soon! All the best for the rest of the season for you guys too!
