Based on Souths continuing struggle to be competitve at the NRL level, our clever stitch up of the Newtown area from under their noses, the fact that everyone from Sydney seems to gloss over that the central coast will want their own team not some transplant, the obvious solution (should it ever become necessary) is for the Southern Sydney Sharks to be the combination. In fact, if the two clubs have any brains they would be doing just that right now. Train and road access to Toyota Park is good enough to beat the pants off atmosphereless Telstra, utilising the Redfern connection to the aboriginal community throughout NSW and Queensland to source the next generation Peaches and Preston's could be a master stroke in the same way that Essendon came to own that source of talent in AFL. It would be the Sharks because, let's face it, being a Rabittoh is about as threatening as being the Canterbury Berries, but in genuine deferrence to the great tradition of South Sydney, the guaranteed permanent away jumper is the red & green hoops but with a white Shark logo. I'd even roll over to the name being South Sydney Sharks if that's what it took. Also confirms the reality that the St. George area really supplies nothing to the Stains other than history and the merged team really owns all of southern Sydney because, let's face it, only soccer is played in the St George (as opposed to Bulldog) area these days. With the rapidly changing demographic of the South Sydney area given the apartment boom around Botany there is some real connection with the apartment/cafe side of the Shire represented by Cronulla.
Then we can leave South Coast United to continue alone in their rich 6 1/2 year old tradition of massive underachievement in the Gong and back at Okie Dokie Artichokie Stadium whenever the fans fancy a fresh Kebabs or some good Schezuan at Hurstville after a game.
