WWE 2009 - From Wrestlemania

Haas/Goldust = awesome.

Jericho's promo - awesome.

Hoping you go a better way about unifying the titles though. Didnt like the fact that Cena suggested it. Coulda been cool if Orton bought it up as a sorta "Im gonna kill everything McMahon created...starting with his biggest merchandise pusher" type thing.

Cool Raw, looking forward to the next show.

Truth be told, it's not something on the immediate horizon. It's not the kind of thing the WWE would throw away on a low end PPV, let alone on Raw. If I go ahead with it, Survivor Series or SummerSlam might be the best bet. But I may hold it off for Wrestlemania so it gets maximum exposure.

Haas/Goldust have insane chemistry. I put them in a dark match with Miz & Morrison and got 92% match quality - thus a throwaway squash gave me a new tag team

Highlights from ECW's presence at Wrestlemania XXV are shown as the show opens, with Christian's defeat of Jack Swagger for the ECW Title being shown right alongside the efforts of ECW legend, Tommy Dreamer and young gun, Evan Bourne in Money in the Bank.

But it's Christian on his way out to the ring to open the show, the newly crowned ECW Champion getting a hero's welcome as he salutes the peeps and soaks in their adoration.

He talks about Captain Charisma getting the job done for his peeps, and how his win is what will hopefully turn ECW into the premier brand in the WWE. He delivers a real rallying cry.

"For too long, ECW has been treated like the forgotten third cousin. While Smackdown and Raw take whoever they want, ECW seems to be forgotten.

His inspirational speech is interrupted by the arrival of former champion, Jack Swagger. The young star says that Christian's win was pure luck and that, if he's man enough, Christian should defend the gold tonight.

The champion agrees - but warns Swagger that if he cashes in his rematch now, there's nothing but tears and disappointment for him after the inevitable loss.
RATING: 75% Christian lost 2 points of overness

Match: Tommy Dreamer vs. Mark Henry
Fresh off of his inspirational showing at Wrestlemania, the evergreen ECW legend is in action against the World's Strongest Man. The fans are firmly behind Dreamer in this one, but Tony Atlas' presence in Henry's corner cannot be discounted.

The match itself is sluggish and largely dreadful, thanks mostly to Mark Henry's no selling of anything Dreamer does do. It looks a foregone conclusion when Henry sets Dreamer up for the World's Strongest Slam, but the veteran worms his way out, kicks Henry in the gut, and puts him out with a Dreamer DDT. 1-2-3! He's done it! Dreamer gets a huge win over a huge opponent!
WINNER: Tommy Dreamer by pinfall (Dreamer DDT) after 5:14
RATING: 67/73/55

Match: Finlay vs. Paul Burchill
The fans are right behind the fighting Irishman in this one, with Finlay being another shock ommision from the Wrestlemania card. He's up against the out of sorts, Paul Burchill here. Burchill's been on a downward spiral ever since abandoning his pirate roots a few years ago - and even the gorgeous Katie Lea Burchill can't seem to halt his fall from grace.

This match is a straight up, sleeper hit. The two British trained workers beat the snot out of one another in an old fashioned, stiff as f**k match the likes of which Finlay, Regal, and the late Benoit would have on Heat.

Finlay and Burchill both show periods of dominance, with Finlay looking the goods until Katie Lea gets involved by tripping him up. Hornswoggle is on hand to make mischief, though, yanking down the beautiful British lass' pants to show off her bright red thong! Lawler would have gone crazy.

Finlay is laughing and gets caught with a vicious elbow to the back of the skull that floors him. Burchill grips his arms and hits a brutal Curbstomp. Cover! 1-2-3! Burchill gets a huge victory after a surprisingly good bout.
WINNER: Paul Burchill by pinfall (Curbstomp) after 6:15
RATING: 78/67/89 Burchill gained 1 point of overness

We cut to the office of ECW GM, Theodore Long. He's doing some writing when the door opens and two familiar faces step into the room. It's former New Breed partners, Marcus Cor Van and Elijah Burke.

Long grins as they come in and gets up to shake their hands, welcoming the two young stars back to ECW. Burke says that ECW has missed the man who puts the 'E' in it - while Cor Van cuts a good promo about how everyone will feel the POOOOOOOOOUNCE.... period!

Grish and Striker tell us that the two are in action next!
RATING: 80% Elijah Burke gained 3 points of overness

Match: DJ Gabriel & Ricky Ortiz vs. Marcus Cor Van & Elijah Burke

There's plenty of future star on display in this match, as four of the hot young prospects in the WWE square off. And while the match itself isn't champagne, it's far from terrible.

The New Breed alliance controls this for the most part, although Ortiz and Gabriel both get in a little high flying offence before Cor Van crushes Ortiz with the Pounce. He covers, Burke cuts off Gabriel's attempted interference, and the finish is academic. The New Breed stand tall on their return.
WINNERS: Marcus Cor Van & Elijah Burke by pinfall (Pounce) after 9:23
RATING: 66/63/70

We're back from commercial as Jack Swagger makes his way out to the ring to cash in his rematch and hopefully reclaim the gold just 48 hours after losing it.

The arena erupts for the arrival of Christian.

ECW Title Match: Christian (c) vs. Jack Swagger
This is definitely the match of the night in terms of atmosphere. Swagger has come along in leaps and bounds when it comes to drawing heat, and he does it well early on with a series of rest holds, eye rakes, and submissions.

Eventually Christian rallies with the fans, fighting out of a sleeper hold and battling back to give the fans something to cheer about with an atomic drop and a clothesline that sends Swagger to the outside. Christian goes to the top rope and flies off with a suicidal dive. He must have been ten feet in the air before he came down on Swagger!

With both men down, Swagger manages to get back in control when he whips the champion to the stairs. There's a little old school ECW on display as the champion begins to bleed. He's rolled back into the ring and Swagger controls things for a little longer.

Cage again battles back, reversing an attempted suplex and hitting the Unprettier out of nowhere. The 1-2-3 gets the win, and Swagger's ECW Title dream is done!
WINNER: Christian by pinfall (Unprettier) after 15:44
RATING: 82/82/83

The first Smackdown after Wrestlemania opens with highlights from the big event, focussing mainly on Edge's title loss against John Cena and also on Undertaker and Vladimir Kozlov's respective wins.

And it's the Rated R Superstar on his way out to the ring to open the show, the fans booing the former champion until he tells them to shut up. He says Wrestlemania XXV will go down in infamy as the Wrestlemania that killed Smackdown.

He says that his presence alone can't keep the show afloat when there's no gold on the brand - and he mocks Undertaker for not being able to get the job done against his former Rated RKO partner.

"And that brings me to Vickie..."

Edge says that Vickie's let the power of being GM of both brands go to her head. She's forgotten those who are close to her and the brand that made her into the woman she is today. He runs her down as a traitor for not giving him a title shot on Raw.

This brings out Vickie, who wants to apologise to Edge. He doesn't want to hear it, though. He's a petulant child.

"The draft starts next week," Edge reminds everyone, "And I hope to God I'm drafted to Raw where I don't have to rely on your inadequate abilities to get back my gold".

He storms off, leaving a tearful Vickie Guerrero to the jeers of the crowd.

Match: Mr. Kennedy (c) vs. Chavo Guerrero
The commentary team remind us that MVP's recent injury came in a house show loss against Mr. Kennedy, and wish MVP a speedy recovery. Internet sites report he's out until 2010.

This is a decent enough opening bout, with the fans right behind Kennedy as he again looks to battle back from a career halting injury. Chavo draws good heat with heelish tactics, but ultimately it's Kennedy getting the 1-2-3 following a Mic Check to secure his first successful title defence.
WINNER AND STILL US CHAMPION: Mr. Kennedy by pinfall (Mic Check) after 8:30
RATING: 75/78/71

We now cut backstage to find the fearsome Umaga, who left Wrestlemania as an unexpected Money in the Bank winner.

He's standing with a somewhat familiar face, the man formerly known as The Sinister Minister during his ECW days and known more recently as James Mitchell from his TNA run. Mitchell is apparently Umaga's new 'manager'.

He hypes Umaga as an unstoppable force whose only weakness in the past has been a lack of guidance. With Mitchell at his side and a guaranteed title shot on the horizon, the WWE is put on notice. Umaga will be a champion before the year is out. Bank on it.

We return from commercial to cheers as we see the injured Jeff Hardy talking with Maria. Hardy lost an epic match against his brother, Matt, at Wrestlemania and still looks the worse for wear.

"I think you did the right thing," Maria says cutely.

"So do I..."

Their conversation is interrupted as Matt Hardy steps into the room. Jeff comes warily to his feet, but Matt has his hands up as a peace offering.

"I'm done with you, Jeff," he informs him arrogantly, "I showed at Wrestlemania who the better man is and I don't have any need to prove that again".

Jeff demands a rematch tonight, but Matt won't bite. He tells Jeff he already has a match against Carlito, and that Jeff is beneath him now.

Solid heel promo. Matt looked good.
RATING: 75% Jeff Hardy lost 2 points of overness

Match: Umaga vs. Festus
This one is short and brutal, with Festus being well and truly squashed here. With word that he'll be released by the company in the not too distant future, Festus' offense is limited to a few early chops before he is utterly demolished by Umaga. The pin comes after a big avalanche and a Samoan drop.
WINNER: Umaga by pinfall (Samoan drop) after 4:19
RATING: 71/71/77

Before we go to commercial we're backstage with Undertaker and Eve. Eve congratulates Undertaker on his victory over Shawn Michaels, but he's not out here to celebrate. He's out here to signal his intentions to go after the gold. And if the draft doesn't bring any to Smackdown, he's going to go to Raw to find it. He'll go to ECW to find it. He'll go the Hell itself to get gold.

Match: Kendrick & Ezekiel vs. Hurricane Helms & R-Truth
A whole lot of talent on display in this match, with three of the most underutilised talents on the brand on display as well as one of the most promising big man talents in recent memory.

This is the best match of the evening so far, with the three smaller men producing some fast paced, exciting wrestling while Helms and R-Truth do a good job of selling Ezekiel's size advantage. The ending comes with Helms having Kendrick set up for a Vertabreaker, only to be collected with a brutal ax kick from Ezekiel. This dumps Kendrick on his head and puts Helms out, but Kendrick slumps across the fallen Helms to get the 1-2-3 thanks to a big assist from his bodyguard.
WINNERS: The Brian Kendrick & Ezekiel by pinfall (Ax Kick) after 11:09
RATING: 74/67/81

We cut backstage for some information on the draft and how it will work. Each show will see a single talent drafted from a rival brand, for a total of three guaranteed drafts a week. The draft will last five weeks. In addition to these random drafts, shows will feature three way matches which will see talent drafted to the winning brand's roster.

Finally, when it's all done, the draft will feature a supplemental draft as well as trades.
Match: Maria vs. Natalya
This is another squash in an evening highlighted by them as the new booking regime signals their intentions. Natalya dominates this one from start to finish, busting out a number of Hart inspired moves before forcing Maria to tap out to the sharpshooter.
WINNER: Natalya by submission (Sharpshooter) after 3:11

Back from the break and it's Carlito on his way out to the ring with his brother, Primo at his side. The two men were unlucky not to walk away with tag gold at Wrestlemania.

Out next is Matt Hardy, who draws heavy booing as he comes out with little fanfare.

Match: Matt Hardy vs. Carlito
And this, right here, is your match of the night. These two have immediate chemistry, and both are clearly motivated by the change in the booking regime. Hardy, in particular, looks more intense and switched on than he ever has.

Hardy controls this one for the most part, but Carlito gets in enough underdog offence not to look weak. The ending is predictable, though, with Hardy's train rolling on following a Twist of Fate.
WINNER: Matt Hardy by pinfall (Twist of Fate) after 8:48

As Matt celebrates his win, though, Jeff Hardy races down the ramp from the back. Matt quickly bails. He's clearly not as 'done' with this as he'd like everyone to believe.
RATING: 83/78/89

Cole and JR throw to commercial, but instead of regular commercials, we see something entirely different. Shoddy quality camera work, black and white, and a bunch of off camera laughter and noise. At the end of it all, as it fades to black, there is the flash of spray painted wall and a familiar voice taunting the fans:

"You know who we are. But you don't know why we're here".

Match: Edge & Vladimir Kozlov vs. Undertaker & Big Show
The commentary team have been hyping this one all night, as two men who recorded big victories at Wrestlemania square off. Kozlov and Show start things out and resume where they left off at Mania, but soon Undertaker's in the ring and you'd expect him to clean house.

Kozlov continues to control things, and even puts Undertaker down with a brutal Samoan drop. Edge blind tags and tries for an optimistic cover, but Undertaker is up and he's not happy. He takes Edge to school and even goes a little Old School for a two count before Kozlov saves.

Big Show comes in and the two big men battle out of the ring and up the ramp. This leaves Edge at the mercy of Undertaker, but he's got a plan. While the referee calls for Kozlov and Show to stop, Edge hits a low blow on the Dead Man. The referee turns around in time for .... SPEAR! Edge spears the Undertaker!

Kickout!

Undertaker is angrier now. He begins to beat Edge from pillar to post, but we cut backstage to where Kozlov and Show are battling. Show goes to whip Kozlov towards a plate glass window but Kozlov reverses the whip. Show pulls up short. BATTERING RAM THROUGH THE GLASS! Show is out! Show is out!

Back in the ring, Undertaker is setting Edge up for a Tombstone following more brutal offence. He's almost ready to hit it, but Kozlov's back out. He charges into the ring and is floored by a big boot from Undertaker. Edge squirms free and rolls Undertaker up! 1-2-3! He stole a win!
WINNERS: Edge & Vladimir Kozlov by pinfall (roll up) after 13:22

For those wondering, Triple H has been taken off of the air indefinitely while he spends time with his family. Expect him to return in a few months to renew hostilities with Randy Orton.

Natalya Neidhart has been ruled out for seven months with a ripped bicep. Neidhart sustained the injury in her recent Smackdown victory over Maria. The injury is a blow to Smackdown writing plans - with an intended Hart Foundation reunion put on hold while the daughter of Jim Neidhart recovers.

The recent promo on Smackdown was indeed for an NWO redux. Although it can be confirmed that Scott Hall was seen backstage at Smackdown tapings this week - sources close to the WWE have revealed that neither Hulk Hogan or Kevin Nash will feature. The plan is to have Hall introduce a few new talents in the hopes of creating some future stars.

A leaked poster for Backlash shows John Cena and Vladimir Kozlov, so it's a safe bet that one of the two will be drafted over the next five weeks. There is also strong word that Randy Orton will face The Big Show.

Raw Preview

The 2009 draft kicks off on Monday Night Raw! In addition to one random draft taking place during the show - there will also be three inter-brand challenge matches with the winning brand receiving a bonus draft pick.

Intercontinental Champion CM Punk will face off against United States Champion, Mr. Kennedy and ECW's Evan Bourne in what promises to be a huge match. Which brand will take the early advantage in the Draft war?

The newly formed team of GoldHAAS will see its first in ring action as they take on Cryme Tyme in what promises to be a key match in deciding who will face John Morrison and the Miz further down the line.

Last week, Chris Jericho mocked Shawn Michaels' plans to give something back to the business before hanging up his famed boots. What did HBK mean when he said he'd make ammends to the legendary Hitman, Bret Hart? Tune in to find out what occurs next in the ongoing saga between Y2J and HBK.

There'll also be two more inter brand challenges featuring randomly selected representatives and the all important opening draft pick. Which Smackdown or ECW superstar will move to Raw?

And if that weren't enough? We'll also find out who the new Raw General Manager will be in what promises to be an action packed, three hour edition of Raw!

-------
ecw_sm.jpg

ECW Preview

The land of Extreme couldn't be much more exciting as the extremists look to capitalise on the draft. The return of Captain Charisma, Christian has breathed new life into the brand and there's a swathe of new stars bound for the land of tables, barbed wire, and brutality.

In an inter-brand challenge match, Smackdown's R-Truth faces off against ECW's Marcus Cor Van and Raw's Kofi Kingston to decide which brand receives another free draft.

We'll also see former ECW champion's on display as Jack Swagger of ECW takes on Matt Hardy of Smackdown and Raw's CM Punk in another inter-brand challenge. Which former champion will stand tall and claim their brand another draft pick?

And, in a third inter-brand challenge, three randomly selected pairings will face off in what should be a novel challenge. Who will represent Raw, Smackdown, and ECW? Tune in to find out!

-------

1257498.jpg

Smackdown Preview

The last night of inter-brand challenges promises to provide more surprises as the rules get changed. The losers of inter-brand challenges will be drafted to the winning programme, and it all starts as Raw's Melina faces former Diva Champion, Michelle McCool.

We'll also see former tag team champions battling as Simply Priceless come to Smackdown to take on Carlito & Primo. And if that wasn't enough, ECW Champion, Christian will face off against former World Heavyweight Champion, The Great Khali. Will the Indian collosus move to the Land of Extreme? Or will the ECW gold move to Friday nights?

Mr. Kennedy will also defend his United States Title against Shelton Benjamin, and a huge main event between Undertaker and The Big Show promises to provide some clue as to who will be a contender should Smackdown ever get gold of its own.

All of this in addition to Smackdown's first official draft pick! Who will move to Friday nights?

The pyros go off and it's time for a special, three hour Monday Night Raw as the 2009 WWE Draft gets underway! But before we can get down to the draft proper, the music of William Regal hits and the cocky Englishman struts out to the ring with the stunning Layla at his side. He's grinning from ear to ear. What's on his mind.

Regal gets on the microphone and informs us that Vickie Guerrero's run as Raw General Manager has come to an end. The crowd goes nuts. Regal is out here to introduce our new General Manager: William Regal.

The fans hate this. Some remember his reign as General Manager in 2008 and his antics back then.

Regal then goes on to explain how the draft will work. Tonight there will be three inter brand triple threat matches, with the winning representative winning a random draft pick for his or her brand.

He then announces that in all matches, titles will be on the line, grinning wickedly as he does so.
RATING: 85%

As Regal leaves the ring, the music of CM Punk hits and the Intercontinental Champion makes his way out to a huge ovation. He will be Raw's representative.

Next out is United States Champion, Mr. Kennedy who will represent Smackdown. We could see the titles united tonight!

Last out is ECW's Evan Bourne, and the popular young gun looks pumped up for a big match on Raw.

But before we can start, Regal makes his first unpopular decision of the night.

"As much as I would love to see the United States Title come to Raw, I'm not going to give away a title unification in front of you ingrates. Only CM Punk's Intercontinental Title will be on the line tonight".

Match: CM Punk (c) vs. Mr. Kennedy (c) vs. Evan Bourne
There's a great chemistry on display in this match, and the three babyfaces ensure that the fans are pumped from the get go - in spite of Regal's proclamation. All three guys get in plenty of offence and there's a number of near falls in a fast paced, lengthy match to set the tone for the show.

Kennedy hits a Mic Check on Bourne late in the piece for a near fall, only to have Punk hit a top rope splash to break it up. He tosses Kennedy over the top ropes and hoists a dazed Bourne to his shoulders. Go 2 Sleep! Punk covers and Kennedy can't make it in to make the save! Punk retains his Interncontinental Title and wins Raw a random draft pick!
WINNER: CM Punk by pinfall (Go 2 Sleep) after 14:11
RATING: 79/77/81

The big screen begins to flash random faces from the Smackdown and ECW rosters, and it finally settles on Paul and Katie Lea Burchill. The brother and sister pair from England are headed back to Monday nights!

We return from the break as John Cena makes his way out to the ring to his usual mixed reaction. He's got the gold over his shoulder and the mic in hand.

He once again calls out Randy Orton, telling him that the fans want to see the two men go at it to unify the gold. There's a lengthy silence following the challenge, and then the crowd boos as Simply Priceless make their way out to the head of the ramp.

They say that Randy isn't here tonight - he's meeting with the heads of ECW and Smackdown and gaining assurances that he'll be taken care of if he is drafted to their show.

"Well, that's disappointing," Cena replies, "But the Champ is here and he's ready for a fight. So maybe one of you wants to help me out?"

DiBiase and Rhodes argue over it and Cena suggests they play rock, paper, scissors to decide who faces him. They do, and Cody Rhodes loses. Looks like we'll see Cody Rhodes vs. John Cena later tonight!
RATING: 92% John Cena gained 2 points of overness

Match: GoldHAAS vs. Cryme Tyme
The new pairing of Goldust and a similarly attired Charlie Haas debuted last week on Raw, and tonight they pair up in ring for the first time against Cryme Tyme. The unusual team shows plenty of chemistry early on - Goldust's mind games working well with Haas' no nonsense style. Predictably, the new pairing get the win after Shattered Dreams to JTG is followed up with the brutal Haas of Pain by Haas.
WINNERS: GoldHAAS by submission (Haas of Pain) in 8:41
RATING: 75/74/77

A video package shows the events from Smackdown and ECW while the two teams vacate the ring.

When we come back, Shawn Michaels makes his way out to the ring to a tremendous ovation. He might not have ended Undertaker's streak at Wrestlemania - but the fans still adore him. After last week's retirement speech and apology to the Harts was interrupted - it looks like he's determined to say his part.

Michaels again talks about the many highlights of his career, and again talks about the one, unfathomable lowlight. He talks about how he's contacted the Hart Family and how Bret has so far refused to take his calls.

This again brings out Chris Jericho, the cocky Canadian and 2008 Superstar of the Year laughing with exagerration.

"Boo hoo!" he taunts HBK, "Bret Hart won't take my calls!"

"Did you ever stop to think that maybe Bret has better things to do than wait for you to call? Did you ever think that maybe he has a wife and a family that he spends time with? You remember those, don't you, Shawn? A wife and kids? They're those people you see once every few months because you're busy making money and stealing headlines. You come out here and you act like the Montreal Screwjob ended Bret Hart's career and ruined his life. But maybe he's at peace with that, Shawn? Maybe you just want to say 'sorry' for your own, selfish purposes".

HBK staunchly takes this abuse, and Jericho continues.

"You want to apologise to somebody? How about you apologise to the man you stabbed in the make to launch your career? Why don't you apologise to Marty Jannety?"

He's in the ring! Shawn Michaels' former Rockers partner is in! He tackles HBK as Jericho rushes down to the ring. It's a two on one situation as Jericho and Jannety beat on Michaels.

But then that familiar music hits again. Bret Hart's music! The fans go crazy, but it's not Bret making his way out to the ring. It's somebody else! He's got a build more in line with HBK's and he hits the ring at speed, taking down Jannety with a dropkick. Michael Cole guesses that this must be Teddy Hart!

Without his man advantage, Jericho bails - leaving Shawn Michaels standing next to Teddy Hart. For a moment there's tension, then Hart offers his hand and HBK accepts! A level of peace his been formed between Shawn Michaels and the nephew of Bret Hart!
RATING: 80% Teddy Hart gained 1 point of overness. Shawn Michaels lost 2 points of overness.

We're back from commercial for our second inter-brand challenge. First out is Kofi Kingston, but we're informed that this will be a tag match - so he's soon joined by Rey Mysterio. That's a popular pairing!

Next out are Marcus Cor Van and Elijah Burke, representing ECW. Finally, the popular pairing of Carlito and Primo is out to represent Smackdown.

Match: Rey Mysterio & Kofi Kingson vs. Primo & Carlito vs. The New Breed
Like the previous inter-brand match, there's a fantastic chemistry on display here. All three teams have experience and it shows as they come up with some innovative, fast paced offence. It's mostly the Smackdown and Raw teams turning it on with their high risk style - but Cor Van and Burke's more straight-forward brawling sees them make a number of near falls early in the piece.

All three teams get in plenty of offence, with Mysterio hitting the 619 on Primo for a near-fall that gets broken up by a desperate dive from Burke. Not long after that, Burke is tagged in and delivers the Elijah Experience to Primo. Rey's attempted springboard intercept is POUNCED! And that's it! 1-2-3. ECW win a random draft!
WINNERS: The New Breed by pinfall (Elijah Experience) after 11:44
RATING: 76/73/80

The big screen again flashes random stars - this time from Raw and Smackdown. And Smackdown gain JTG! Looks like Cryme Tyme's lost to GoldHAAS was their last match together!

----
COMMERCIAL

We're back from the break and William Regal is already in the ring. It seems he's Raw's representative in the final inter-brand challenge. He seems to be smiling as if he knows something that we don't.

And second out is.... Christian! Regal's plan was obvious now! He's put himself in a position to win Christian's ECW Title and gain Raw a second automatic draft pick.

Third out is.... the music of Kung Fu Naki hits, but the Japanese star doesn't appear. A moment later, his music is replaced and it's Edge! The Rated R Superstar is here!

Match: Christian (c) vs. William Regal vs. Edge
The real story in this match is the clash between the former multiple time tag champions as they face off for the first time in several years. Regal's presence is almost an afterthought - as Edge makes a beeline towards his brother. He's clearly determined to get some gold!

It's another fantastic three way match, with Regal playing an effective spoiler to prevent the two from ever really getting to grips. Whenever one has the upper hand - the Raw General Manager cuts him off with a brutal chop or elbow. He even goes close to capturing the belt when he's able to roll up Christian to break up an Unprettier attempt.

From here, Regal controls things against the ECW Champion throw a mixture of sheer brutality and a subtle thumb to the eye to halt a fight-back. But he can't quite put the champion away, and Christian kicks him in the gut and sets up for the Unprettier!

SPEAR!

Edge Speared Christian, sending him back into Regal and knocking both men out! He covers his brother.

The random images again begin to flash but Edge doesn't care as he makes a quick exit. Those at home and in the crowd see that Smackdown has gained Teddy Long. Looks like ECW will be without a General Manager!

We cut backstage to where Chris Jericho is with an interviewer. He informs us that he feels betrayed. He stood up for the Hart Family and got his face spat in by a punk. He's going to be facing Teddy Hart right after the break!

Match: Teddy Hart vs. Chris Jericho
There's some chemistry here as Teddy Hart, wearing the trademark pink and black, gets his first match as a WWE star. He's got HBK in his corner for this one. It's a promising start for the newcomer, but he's never able to get control of the match against the wily veteran, Jericho.

But HBK's presence at ringside proves to be a factor, as Jericho puts out Hart with a Lionsault and wastes time mocking Michaels. Hart is up and hits a picture perfect missile dropkick to send Jericho into the ropes. He catches the rebounding Jericho with a German Suplex! Hart's going up to! Hart Attack! It's the Shooting Star Elbow Drop, not the Shooting Star Press. Cover!

KICKOUT!

Jericho manages to kick out! Hart can't believe it. He tries valiantly to battle back, but his pluckiness isn't enough to combat Jericho's experience or anger. The Codebreaker finishes it.
WINNER: Chris Jericho by pinfall (Codebreaker) after 6:15
RATING: 76/74/79

Jericho doesn't stick around to deal with HBK or Hart, leaving the pair in the ring as he heads backstage.

Before we cut to commercial, some unfamiliar music plays:

(Sorry for the live copy, it's all I could find)

A trio of somewhat familiar faces feature in the clip that plays along with it. Austin Aries, Chris Hero, and former Smackdown star, Brent Albright discuss being the Renaissance of professional wrestling. They're coming to Raw to lead the revolution.

We're back from the break and Michael Cole and The King are still wondering who the first official draft pick will be as Cody Rhodes makes his way to the ring with Ted DiBiase at his side.

John Cena is next out, and we're informed that this match will be for his World Heavyweight Title.

Match: John Cena (c) vs. Cody Rhodes for the World Heavyweight Title
This one is never really expected to be anything other than a Cena win, but DiBiase's involvement from ring side and some dirty play from Rhodes make this into an actual main event. What's more, these two actually have chemistry! From a quality standpoint, it's actually the best match of the night - even if the ending is a predictable F-U/STFU combination for the submission win.
WINNER AND STILL CHAMPION: John Cena by submission (STFU) in 10:16
RATING: 79/76/82

Cena's post match celebrations are ruined, however, as Vladimir Kozlov vaults the security barrier and hits the ring. BATTERING RAM TO THE CHAMPION!

The big Russian isn't done, though. Kozlov picks up the stunned champion and introduces us to his new finisher, Fall of Russia - a sheer release powerbomb that absolutely crushes the champion! Vladimir Kozlov is the newest member of the Raw roster and he's made an explosive debut!
