Yeah they did. Fans talking about "stories" is new phenomenon. Pwi has always had match of year award category. Never story of the year. If matches were good at SummerSlam WWE fans would be singing about it.
lol what?

Professional wrestling is and has always been about telling a story through the medium of wrestling.

Triple H’s booking is starting to become apparent, generally speaking the B-shows are fairly mid, but for the most part the week to week TV is very good and the big PPVs are fantastic. The stories are generally well told and coherent even if they’re paced fairly glacially.

Good to see they’re pulling the trigger on Reed (or as I saw him referred to the other day, Bulk Bogan)
He is excellent

It may have been nepotism that even gave him a sniff of being in this position all those years ago but I'm sure glad it worked out that way. He clearly has a wonderful mind for the business.

Amazing how when the booking is clear, straight forward and logical the roster all of a sudden feels a lot deeper. On the Smackdown side of things you have Rhodes, Roman, LA Knight, Orton, Owens & even Solo as stars. On Raw you have Punk, Drew, Seth, Gunther, Priest & Zayn with plenty more on the horizon.

My big change I would make is, considering PPVs are only 4-5 matches, going back to brand specific PPVs

Kind of a 2 match show but both matches served their purpose. Trips needs to cool it with the interference spots (4/5 matches ended that way).

Interesting KO heel turn down after the show though.

Thoughts on Survivor Series?

Interestingly starting with the womens match.
Things to note - Stratton teased cashing in, Raquel got handcuffed to one of the ring ropes. Sky and Stratton both did dives from the top (Sky with the trash can over her head). To nitpick a few things - When Stratton came down, Liv Morgan went down but it didn't look like she was close to being hit. There was one moment where Sky was in between the rings, and she moved liked she was gonna enter the action, then laid back down lol.
Seemed everyone wanted to bring weapons in. It all kinda led up to 2 things - How were the faces gonna handle the size and power of Nia and Raquel (Nia weirdly started the match) and the other was the eventual lead up to Ripley getting her hands on Morgan. Predictibly the faces won.

Nakamura won the US title off Knight. I have no real complaints with that decision. Nakamura needed something, Knights reign was a lil stale. Will we see Knight get a ME push? Match was short, but did the job.

Breakker defended successfully against Sheamus and Kaiser in a brilliant fast paced match. Probably my favorite match of the PLE. I do hope Breakker does drop it to Sheamus, but not yet. Maybe build it to WM?

GUNTHER def Priest, due to a Balor interference. Could see that happening a mile off. Priest sold an injury well. I really like Priest.

The mens war games was good story telling, nothing shocking happened. It was a decent match. Built mostly around if Punk and Reigns would work together. Bronson went off the top but Punk saved Reigns, Jimmy hit a splash from the top as well. Fatu sakes me, Tama Tonga is crazy. Solo seems to be the weakest of the new bloodline.

Decent, but not spectacular PLE.

My main issue with War Games is they always follow a similar pattern

Obviously starts out with 2, usually goes fairly back and forth in the first period.
Let's say the heels get the advantage, you know that the face is gonna get the heel in a bad position, so the fresh heel comes in and dominates.
Then the face team has someone enter, and that person dominates.
Essentially whoever is coming in, their team at the point of time are usually all out, or in submission holds etc. The momentum just swings with whomever is coming out.
Then usually theres a typical big sequence where alternate finishers are hit or a weapon used.
You know no ones gonna score a pin until every table is broken, or every weapon is used (e.g for the Womens match, it wasn't gonna end till Skys trash can was used). Just seems to take any of the anticipation of pinfalls upto that point useless.

Do we NEED 2 War Games matches a year? The Bloodline one yes, but the womens could have been a traditional Survivor Series match. Please don't ruin the gimmick and the novelty of it. - I'm not against a womens War games match but I don't think the rivalry was intense enough between all of em to warrant it.

Women’s match was really poor imo, a lot of the ring filling section of the match seemed under planned and sloppy. I have enjoyed Nia since her return but she was awful here, her chair shots were love taps. Once Rhea came out the match picked up and although the ending was predictable I ended up enjoying myself.

US title match was largely fine, Knight has lost a lot of his shine he has 12 months ago and this reign didn’t help him. To be fair the Smackdown midcard is very weak with the Cody/Randy/KO and Bloodline feuds going on it leaves little time for much else. Nakamura is the new Ziggler imo, talented and has good matches but don’t get excited about a push he has, they know where he stands.

IV title was fantastic. Bron is an absolute star in the making and is still green as heck. Let him work with the Sheamuses of the world and work his way up the card, he will main event Wrestlemania in a few years.

World title match was fantastic although I really hope the Priest/Balor feud ends soon. Don’t drag it until Mania, it’s just not that interesting. Give Priest something he can really sink his teeth into.

Men’s war games was cinema, if a little long. I knew team Roman would go over but it set the scene for Roman Punk down the line (I think we get Rock/Roman and Rollins/Punk at mania but this could be summerslam 2025 or Mania 42).

There were dozens of ways I saw the 10 years of the New Day segment going…..Kofi and Woods getting on the same page and turning heel on E was not one of them.

I low key wonder if E has been medically cleared and it's leading up to something.
If not, that segment was BRUTAL!

No chance anyone would have foreseen it, but it's a great move for them. They've been very stale for a while, especially with E gone, so they needed the change. And the way they did it last weel was impressive too, very different from the usual beat-down or betrayal. It was uncomfortable to watch and E played the part well!

I assume (hope) that it also means E isn't far off returning too. And it works for him because he needs a fresh character too.

There are tag teams who I don’t need to see have a singles match. Woods vs Kofi is a match I really don’t need to see, despite being a fan of both guys. They’ve really been stale since E got injured and this is the shot in the arm they need. I can see an E return at the rumble, and when it does happen you can bet it will blow the roof off.

Kofimania we lightning in a bottle stuff that only a ten year vet could achieve, and I can’t see Woods winning a world title, but E has main event potential.
