I'd be interested to know how many Sharks fans would be prepared to accept him back.

He's a sharks junior and was one of the best young talents we had seen in decades. It doesn't excuse what he did but it would be naive to think that isn't a factor which comes into consideration.

4 years out of the game and millions in lost wages is enough of a penalty for me for what appears to be a one off mistake.

In a blink. Support him how ever we can over the next few years as well. A young talent that f**ked up under what ever circumstances.
What we want to show to all our current and future juniors is that we, as a club will give you all the chances and opportunities to succeed on a personal level. We understand thant immaturity, bad advice or influence can lead to mistakes, but that's ok.

If a pattern emerges then piss em off for sure.

Wouldn’t rule him out and I’d be ok with him coming back. But he doesn’t warrant any special treatment / path back.

If he took an early plea and showed genuine remorse, rather than drag it out (and his pay packet) for months and months...then I’d be more proactive in the path back.

And don’t forget, he only took it that 1 time, and was very unlucky....

Just like when a 1 night stand says ‘I don’t usually do this sort of thing’, right after a night of impromptu filth... course you don’t love, me neither....

Doubtful. There's no benefit to a one of shot. Especially when allegedly used for injury recovery. Even if he was "unlucky" and got caught after a one off shot the intent was there to use the gear

No to having him back.

Has there ever been a player retained by a club after being done for steroid use? Not peps. The answer is no. Why should the club be the idiots again and set that precedent?

Rod Howe tested positive and stayed with Melbourne
Adam Macdougall and Robbie O'Davis both tested positive and stayed with Newcastle.

Wayne Richards rounded out the Newcastle trio but he was sacked as was Sandor Earl.

Reni Maitua was sacked/release by us and made his return with Parramatta.

There is precedent though not in the modern era.

Under the right circumstances I'd take him back. Plenty of players have come back from worse.

Russell Packer and Matt Lodge both made their NRL returns after a stint in the big house.

John Hopoate made his return after anally raping people on the field.

If he makes his return with us we'll have some ability to control the narrative and make it a redemption story not at our expense which will definitely be the case if he comes back with another club.

Club statement

As a valued member of the Cronulla Sharks, we believe it to be important to keep you updated on significant matters relating to the club.

In this instance, we bring to your attention the handing down of a suspension by the NRL Integrity Unit of four years on former Sharks contracted player Bronson Xerri.

The finding dictates that Bronson cannot hold an NRL contract nor play in the NRL competition until the 2024 season, with the start of his suspension backdated to November 25, 2019, the time of his positive test. The suspension expires on November 25, 2023.

This matter has been before Sports Integrity Australia and the NRL for a period of more than 12 months and although disappointed by the situation and now ultimate outcome, we are relieved to have a final determination.

This does mean that the Sharks will officially terminate Bronson’s contract and whilst we have been supportive of him through this difficult process, the Club does not condone the use of prohibited substances or anyone contravening the rules of the game.

We are confident we have the protocols and practices to best inform our players, from when they enter our Academy system as 14-year old’s, through to our NRL squad members, on the consequences involved with illegal substance use, both from a health perspective and in relation to the rules in place. We will always place the highest importance on rules, regulations and behaviour and how we expect our players to be compliant at every level.

As a young man, Bronson has time on his side and we hope he can put this behind him and should he choose to, return to one day play in the NRL.

Throughout the process we have offered welfare support to Bronson and should he reach out, we would not hesitate to continue to do so during his time under suspension.

We know our Brand is resilient and our people committed to being best ‘off the field’ as well so just wanted to reassure you of our commitment to upholding our Brand and Company values.

Thanks for your continued support of the Sharks and we look forward to seeing you during the 2021 season.

Kind regards
Dino

Doesn't really bode well for the prospect that he'll be making his return with us...

Good.

I’m pissed we are front and centre on news.com with him in our jersey AGAIN.

The recent gains we have had being fully sponsored is a far bigger deal than having this “one time” cheating flog play for us.

I don’t want to hear the sob story. He can sharkoff.

Gone and hopefully forgotten sooner rather than later. Move on
Happy for him to return to the NRL, just not with us....the days of us making desperate signings of reformed flogs, who are really are really ticking time bombs, should be history.

Riccio saying Xerri being terminated means we now have about $100-200k for a mid-year signing.
Surly the NRL can at least not count any of this years money in the salary cap.
Also can we sue Xerri for the money we have paid him since his positive test?
