I just signed a new contract to keep me in China another year. Bring on the four hour work-days, eight weeks of paid vacation, cheap food, late starts after boozy nights, and dusky Oriental beauties.
Much like South Korea 5-10 years ago, China is experiencing an absolute boom when it comes to demand for native speakers. There are schools, academies, and camps all over the country hiring anybody with a Bachelor's degree.
Heck, I've got friends here without a Bachelor degree who are just getting by on the back of an online TEFL certification.
Pay-rates vary between 6000-14,000 RMB. That's in the $1000 to $2000 region. Most places pay your rent for you as well. Couple that with a low cost of living and generally 10-20 hour work weeks (although the 14,000 gigs work 40 hours) and you've got a pretty chill life.
