The Sharks Jersey Flegg side kicked off the weekend of Rugby League in excellent fashion with a strong 26-2 victory over the St George Dragons.
After conceding a penalty goal in the early stages the Sharks then went on to dominate their opponents in what was possibly their most complete performance of the season to date.
The first try to the Sharks was scored by Jardine Bobongie, the second rower pouncing on a loose ball and outsprinting the defence in a 50-metre dash to the try line. The Sharks kept up the pressure and a clever backline movement from deep in their own half was again finished off by Bobongie who backed up to accept the last pass and touch down under the uprights.
Rangy lock Cameron Ciraldo capped off a non-stop performance by also crossing for a four-pointer just before half time, with the Sharks going to the break ahead by 18-2.
The under-20 Sharks never took their foot off the pedal and two second half tries, one to centre Stephen Ross, the other to hooker Kiel Roberts put the result beyond doubt.
While the attack of the Sharks was outstanding on the night, the defence was probably even better, holding their line intact despite numerous St George raids deep inside their own territory.
In a team without a poor performer, the Sharks were best served by Dimitri Pelo and Bronx Goodwin in the backs, Travis Burns was a constant threat to the Dragons defense at half back and Ciraldo was everywhere both in attack and defense. Up front Michael Greenfield and Pene Fiti were strong for the Sharks.
With the victory Aaron Raper's side creep closer to the top eight with a record of four wins and five losses. They will face a big test next weekend against the undefeated Sydney Roosters but if they can build on the form shown on Friday night will enter that match with an excellent chance of success.
