Your dream classic cars

I asked this question and then thought "oh f**k, what would I want?"

If I was in the US, I'd go for a 1972 Mustang fastback (the unloved 2nd generation one in dark green) or a 1967 Chevrolet Camero or a Chevelle. But of all the American muscle cars, I love the Dodge Charger the most

If you love early 70's muscle cars, like me and the thought of buying and converting an American left hooker is too much then there is really only one choice - the Dodge's Australian namesake

Yep CHARGER!

Being English and growing up in the 80's there were a bunch of cars that I'd love to own. Ford Escort Mexico's, XR3's, Ford Cortina Mark 5, Ford Sierra Cosworth, Escort Cosworth...... errrr you get the drift. But the classic Ford that out Fords all the other Fords is the 2.8 litre Ford Capri mark 2. Rear wheel drive. Great balance. Wonderful 2.8 litre engine in a car that weighs about a tonne.

For my final choice, I am seriously tempted to take a classic British sports car such as a Triumph TR6, Austin Healy 3000, Triumph Stag or a MGB GT. Then again there's always the classic Jaguars. An XJS or a E-Type. But there are two cars that win joint third (OK, I'm cheating) but I can't choose and they are both Fords (now there's a surprise)

3.1 The Ford Cortina Lotus Mark 1

3.2 1965 Ford Falcon

Those of you who are errrr, Eagle eyed will notice that these two are just the Euro and American / Australian versions of the same idea. I love the look of them, but just can't choose. Cool cars

To me nothing can touch 1967 pony cars for styling, most makes nailed it that year.

I love Pony and Muscle cars of that whole era

Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Chevelle, AMC Javelin, Dodge Charger and Challenger, Plymouth Barracuda, Chevrolet Camero, Pontiac GTO, Pontiac Firebird, Dodge Dart, Oldsmobile 442 the list goes on

1967 right through to 1972 saw some absolute stunners. Pity they pretty much all handled like crap. Modern set ups cures that though. Today they'd be awesome with modern engines and mechanics

aussie mob based in the phlippines who restore old mustangs and ship to australia..

http://www.classicspeedinc.com/index.cmc

worth a look.. i know if i get the spare cash and a third spot in the garage i'd be in like flynn..

Do a bit of research on them as well. Horror story after horror story.

SOC is on the money. The brother in law got stung there. They gave a quote and when it arrived the quote doubled. They then offered to buy it or he would have to pay return shipping at a large markup.

He lost thousands but would have spent far more than the work and vehicle was worth to get it back.

Which forums? Most of the bad stuff I saw was on the 2 Aussie Mustang Forums. A lot of the stuff got deleted from one of them as it got a bit out of hand. First hand I had a look at 2 of the cars that came from there in regards to getting them roadworthy, both needed major structural repairs. We never ended up fixing them, so I don't know where they ended up.

6 years ago I started off with this

Now it looks like this

Hopefully its on the road by June.

What they say about old cars is pretty true. You can get them driving nicely, but compared to a modern car they are pretty agricultural. Mine now has air ride, 4 link rear, OD Box, Injected big block with alloy heads, rhd with power steer, A/C, power windows, seats etc etc.

Looks awesome. That's what I want

Plenty of old cars I'd love done up.

If I'm talking Aussie muscle an E49 Charger would be ultimate, in showroom spec. I'd also love one of the special edition Chargers, either a white Knight special or a Sporstman.

Plenty of old small cars that'd be a hoot to do up and fit out with some more modern kit too. Would love a Morris Minor fitted with a Datsun engine (Nissan/Datsun basically took the old BMC engines the Morries used and improved the engineering out of sight so they drop straight in), widened rims, front disc brakes and a modern stereo etc. A Mk I Escort would be great, as would a Bedford CF van running a Holden straight 6 (probably on LPG for economy reasons).

Some years ago [can't remember how many] I drove one of those Bedford vans and it was in really good condition.

It was a 173 auto and as I remember the auto part was a bit odd...I think the 'T bar' was really long.

The thing was nice to drive as well.

I do like the old Celicas.
My brother bought an old TA22 and we fitted a V6 commodore engine and had it engineered then my nephew bought it and had the bodywork and paint completed. My Nephew swapped it for a 14 year old Lexus last week the moron.

There was one of those on the hill between Bondi Junction and Double Bay that the guy used as his daily driver back in the early 2000's

It was a thing of beauty

They are classic in every sense of the word.

I would give my left nut to own one. I've been down and seen the one at CTS and it is magnificent. No price tag on it but based on the previous ones they've had it would be somewhere around the $100k - $125k mark. Not outrageous, but still a lot of money for a bit of fun on the weekend.
