Dave Taylor would deadset have to be the biggest 17 year old I've ever seen.

Is Taylor on any of the Australian Youth Tours this year. If so, expect to come up against 17 Year old Bradford Bulls Forward Sam Burgess. -The best Young British forward in 20 years.

Wigan have young Chris Ashton, and Darryl Goulding.

Saints have a centre called Stephen Tyrer and 20 Year old Prop James Graham has already made the grade

Young Loose Forward Danny Washbrook at Hull- is a 20 Year old who could make the GB team in 12 months

Leeds have the 19 year old Jordan Tansey at Full back and 19 year old Danny Williams on the wing has a big future

Bradford Bulls have more great young players Matt James, Craig Copczak, Matt Cook- all Big players.

Andy Bracek at Warrington and Steve Pickersgill are both 20 and again could be GB internationals in 12 to 18 months

GB has perhaps the best set of Young players in 25 years. We just need to get them into the teams

Taylor excluded himself from the Junior Kangaroo's tour so he could train with the Broncos full time during the off season.

For the warriors:
Hame Lauaki (2nd Row)
Sonny Fai (2nd Row)
Miguel Start (Centre)
Russell Packer (Prop)

Might be one year to early for Start and Packer but who knows

Dont get all worked up now. I'm merely stating truth that Noddy is going over to to the Rorters to suck off his man Chris Anderson. Plus he'll form a dynamic partnership with that underrated 5/8 by the name of Braith Anasta. Oh, & by the way at least Orford knows what finals football is about.....The Rorters haven't tasted finals footy for a couple of years.....

Stewart's chest has nothing to do with the way he plays footy......but ask Noddy and Anasta how they are going.....

Colossus turning heads

Mick Daly
January 03, 2007

0,,5350057,00.jpg

HE's 18, bench presses 150kg, sprints 100m in 13 seconds and has the ball skills of a playmaker.

Meet David Taylor, the emerging Hercules tipped to fill Shane Webcke's mighty boots in the Brisbane Broncos front-row. Fresh out of high school, Taylor has been turning heads at pre-season training with his impressive physique and eye-catching presence.

Many expect the 115kg colossus to replace the retired Webcke in Brisbane's engine room.

It is a prospect the working-class kid from Blackwater, west of Rockhampton, was anxious about. "To step into Shane Webcke's spot, that would be amazing," he said yesterday.

"But I've got a few more years until I'm going to be at my peak. There's a lot of older players going for the spot, and they've all got experience on me, so I'm just watching them, seeing what they do and trying to learn as much as I can."

Taylor finished his schooling at Yeppoon's St Brendan's College last year but the Broncos rate him so highly that they flew him to Brisbane each weekend so he could play for feeder team Toowoomba Clydesdales in the Queensland Cup.

In one memorable afternoon against Wynnum, he made a clean break before chip kicking to the corner for winger Denan Kemp to score.

Such freakish abilities have had Taylor – the son of a coal train driver and roadhouse worker – labelled a future Origin star, and one of the most promising young forwards to sign with the Broncos.

But the humble teenager refuses to be weighed down by expectation.

He acknowledges he has a huge battle to outpoint the likes of Dane Carlaw, Corey Parker, Ben Hannant, Nick Kenny and Brad Thorn, who are all starting front-row options.

"I try not to think about what people say. I just think about being myself," Taylor said.

"My aim is just to get as fit and as mentally tough as I can and hopefully I will crack a spot."

Still, should he get a chance in the premiers' No. 8 jersey, don't expect a Webcke prototype to run out.

Sure, Taylor can bash and barge, but he also has the attacking flair that saw him spend some schoolboy game time at five-eighth.

"I've been brought up playing touch footy my whole life, in the backyard, just mucking around heaps," he said.

"At school, you learn how to muck around, step, weave, throw a ball around.

"Sometimes, I pull something out and I look back and think, 'How did I do that? Why did I do that?'

"But I don't try and force anything. I just do what feels right."

Brisbane's Tri-Nations representatives – Darren Lockyer, Petero Civoniceva, Karmichael Hunt, Brent Tate, Shaun Berrigan, Justin Hodges, Sam Thaiday and Tame Tupou – resume training on January 15.
If Taylor can cement a spot in the Broncos squad he will be a major contender for Rookie of the Year.

Expect big things from:

Wiliam Zillman - Utility Back (Canberra)
Israel Folau - Fullback/Centre (Storm)
Sonny Fai - 2nd Row/Centre (Wariors)

I've also heard some big wraps on a young bloke by the name of Jackson Nikau who signed with the Cowboys for this year. Any North QLD fans know if he will be getting a crack in the NRL this year? If so what position is he likely to play?

The Gold Coast Titans

The following two guys I think we will see at some stage in 2007 for the Gold Coast Titans. Both will be household names in the not to distant future.

Chris Sandow - Chris is part of the Gold Coast Titans Elite academy team and starred for the Australian Schoolboys team that toured the UK. A Marsden High School product, Chris is an electrifying halfback who is a threat from anywhere on the field - very much in the mould of Matt Bowen, skills that match too. Brilliant attacking kicking game, good passing game and a one of those rare young players who are two, three plays ahead of those around him.

Link to a recent article: http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,20904081-5006066,00.html

Shannon Walker - Hails from Palm Beach High School and was another stand out on the Australian Schoolboys tour of the UK. Like Chris, very quick on his feet - an excitement machine and home run threat when returning the ball from fullback. Similar in appearance to Chris, Matt Bowen clone in the making.

Both players are as naturally gifter as I have seen at such a young age - both have been likened to Benji Marshall talent wise at the same age. Time will tell if either get to that esteemed level, though both are names for the future.

Didn't Tame Tupou get a write up like the one Taylor has there and ended up playing 3 games that year (2005) and then last year they did one on Frasier Anderson and the result was the same.

Similar, but no...

The thing is Taylor already as the runs on the board. Anderson was a new signing, Tupou had done bugger all in reserves.

Taylor absolutely starred for the Clydesdales last year and continued to improve. I haven't missed more than two Toowoomba games over the past 3 years, and I can tell you Taylor has more potential in his big toe than I ever saw in Fraser or Tupou.

Still think a bit more time in Q-Cup can only be a good thing, but he'll play in the NRL at least half a dozen times this year.

Ben Farrar will be one to watch in Nth Qld. Very disappointed to see this kid leave the Eels. Young centre - Strong defender, very good attacking player. Very handy goalkicker as well. Nephew of Andrew Farrar. Should have played more Premier League than Flegg this year. If he doesn't make first grade this year he will in 2008.

Okay, I have probably only ever seen about 1 qld cup game in my whole life, so I had no idea how players perform in there, except I had heard Inglis got a shi*t load of tries.

Tupou and Anderson were definately overhyped although to be honest I didn't rate them as much as some made out at the time, neither deserved the wraps. Dave Taylor on the otherhand I have watched his progress last season in the Queensland Cup and his definately one you want to watch his progress this season he was close to Toowoomba's best each week. Where Tupou and Anderson where just hype, I tend to think Taylor is something different and rather special IMO.

Im Not Sure, whether ive contributed to this thread b4 or not, but there is a few of the bunnies that will either emerge or get back into known form

John Sutton will have a big 2007, Eddie Paea & Sam Huihaha will emerge to NRL very early in the season, they both have more potential then williams has, and hegarty did.

My Wildcard Pick is Edward Pettybourne, this kid will be one of the props of the future, there is big hype on this kid, if he made the junior kangaroos from a struggling club, then he must be a up and coming superstar

I saw Sandow in a QLD cup game, his defense needs a lot of work.
Very nippy though.

Very much so, like Benji, needs to add some more muscle to his frame. I fear if he is called upon to come in to grade too early (likely 2007 given depth in the halves is a concern), he will be headed down the same path as Benji whereby he is targeted and eventually injured.

If only all halves defended like a Joey front on ... :)
