Dragons' innovations adopted by the NRL

they'd been doing a retro round of sorts since at least 2003, but good try.

Source?

Round 6, 2005 - St George Illawarra/Illawarra Steelers heritage round vs Penrith is the first "heritage match" so to speak to my knowledge. It was a sunny sunday afternoon in Wollongong and Gus was frothing at the bit.

I vaguely remember the ARL celebrating 90 seasons in 1997 and doing a sort of heritage thingy. I might be wrong.

And all of the foundation clubs had special badges that season.

In 1999, Dragon's star Nathan Blacklock did a complicated set of maneuvers ending in a backflip.

The NRL has since adopted this as standard procedure for implementing policy.

And Cherry Evans + Tedesco built on the obvious monentum by using it as a tool for contract negotiation
