The Game 2023 Crowd Watch

It's axiomatic that promotion/relegation is not viable for the NRL.

How about expulsion? If the team at the bottom of the ladder each month were either expelled or sent to Perth, the crowds marching and protesting in various parts of Sydney would be consistently huge.

1. it’s a oval (bad for viewing)
2. Only one train line goes through there, hard to get to if you don’t live close to the area.

3. Kogarah is averaging 10,890 from 3 games this year. Wollongong is averaging 16,575 from 2.

Kogarah only averaged about 8k last year, Wollongong about 11k. If that trend continues it will be hard to ignore.

1. Try ‘definitely’.
2. we know where the 40,000 ‘shite’ came from so read the thread next time.
3. Souths are not the most indigenous club. Get your facts right.
4. Making it all about Souths is just plain silly.
5. Enjoy watching your goslings this weekend.
if there was such a thing as "most indigenous" club it would be the Cowboys anyway. Way more Indigenous people in north qld than any other region, except maybe NT.

Two problems

2. Only one train line goes through there, hard to get to if you don’t live close to the area.
Oval doesn't mean bad for viewing. It is not a cricket oval. It offers the same sight lines as Penrith, Campbelltown and Brookvale, with much better facilities.

As soon as the Dragons sort their shit out it will be full again. Like I said, there's no indication from the club or anyone else that they will ever leave.

I
The Dolphins are probably at 27k pre-sold at the moment. Their crowds are densely filled with minimal sections open - basically the total opposite to Broncos crowds.

Black line - pretty much sold.
Yellow line - selling.

They might get to 30k.

I wish all games were at Kayo. Great stadium to watch a game. Fun family atmosphere and great leagues club!

Max seats you can buy in RED is down to 2. Really hoping they open up more bays. Dolphins ticketing department need to realise that people buying on the day (for the most part) aren't going to be throwing $65 per ticket down. Especially being a new team they need to be growing their fan base by getting as many in as possible.

Yeah they are totally useless and not on the ball. Their management of this is probably costing them 2,000+ per Suncorp game.

Level 5 north east and north west corners not being open as category RED is peak stupidity.

It isn't sugar-coating to say that most NRL games are good to watch irrespective of where the teams are on the ladder.

Winning is a cheap and easy sell which by the very nature of competitive sport can't deliver prosperity for the league as a whole.

The aggregate of crowds at the end of the season is the definitive figure. Robust averages for clubs towards the bottom of the ladder are an essential indicator of the health of the competition.
I was hardly serious making that comment.I agree the overwhelming majority of games are worth the price of admission.

Tried that thanks to SL it failed, the code learnt a lesson. No more fans getting p*ssed off ,unless a club is financially unable to continue.

Despite not reaching the lofty heights of 40k+ that were speculated in the press and by the club (to an extent) this week, it's still a very healthy crowd for a regular season NRL game in Sydney. As @Dark Corner said, this game will grow if the NRL permit it to become a regular fixture of the regular season.

27,432 is the sixth-highest crowd of the season in Sydney so far, and the third-highest for a non-public holiday.

It's also the ninth-highest sporting crowd at Allianz Stadium 2.0.

Someone on social media was saying that was the biggest Rabbitohs home crowd (outside of Good Friday) since 2013. There's no easy way to check that on AFL tables but that's great if true.

There was lots of social media post this week on Indigenous round (more than I've ever seen from the club) so they are definitely building the hype around this game. Also the jerseys are almost sold out on the clubs online store.

The man of the match also gets the Eric Simms medal so looks like this may be a permanent fixture on Indigenous Round.
