Dolphins should be playing all 12 home games at Lang Park.Imagine a 70k Suncorp with a roof! The atmosphere of an Origin would be out of this world. Might become a reality soon.
If so a third Brisbane side is a must.
once fans experience the new Suncorp the crowds will explode.
PNG seems so unrealistic and hopefully it doesn’t eventuate.
Go to 20 teams -
Perth Pirates or Perth Bears if NS can be more realistic.
South Island Keas.
And East’s bid, South Queensland Sabres or whatever they want to call themselves.
3 Brisbane sides all playing their 12 games at Suncorp. A match at the new Suncorp every week. The NRL would absolutely explode in SQLD.
Two at kayo against the sides which don’t have much support in qld like Canberra and sharksDolphins should be playing all 12 home games at Lang Park.
Brisbane Tigers needs to come in within the next eight years. It offers so much more than any other bid.
Dolphin Oval needs to double its capacity. Two at kayo against the sides which don’t have much support in qld like Canberra and sharks
It probably will, its their own ground if they can get the local council to approve changes nearby they might be able to size it up to 17k, then a future plan to get it bigger again down the track maybe> 22kDolphin Oval needs to double its capacity.
Need some of that sweet Olympic Games moneyDolphin Oval needs to double its capacity.
This is self serving bullshit. Anybody who thinks the MCG offers a better rugby league experience than Stadium Australia is either a complete moron, or, even worse, from Perth.context, you're failing again.
One off big games where you want to maximise crowds a modern oval is fine for.
Stadium Australia is not a rectangular stadium by any stretch of the imagination. Its a worse experience than Optus or MCG imo.

Thing is if you let them expand their size then they'll push to stay there indefinitely, (ala cronulla) instead of 9 games at suncorp (which is centre of town, more access to fans), which should be the minimum, you let them expand they'll play rent free in a 22k stadium n redcliffe instead of a possible 70k suncorp (talking in future of course)
So you agree with Great Dane after all lolIt's one of the reasons I cannot get too emotionally invested in the Dolphins. At the core they're a Redcliffe team. I would feel more passionate about the Brisbane Tigers as they'll represent my region.

Except the Broncos are supported all over Brisbane (and the whole southern half of QLD for that matter) That has been the landscape for the best part of 35 years. Dividing Brisbane up into small regions for the sake of NRL clubs 35 years later is seriously f**king stupid, because why would you want to copy clubs like Manly and Cronulla and not the Broncos? and why the f**k wait around for 35 years just to bring in suburban clubs!?I've always believed Brisbane needs more than two teams. Only an idiot who doesn't understand rugby league in Brisbane would be stupid enough to think two clubs is enough to cover Brisbane.
Brisbane 2 was never going to unite every RL fan that doesn't support the Broncos.

Arko did say they wanted to make sure the new brisbane license was a strong oneAre you completely oblivious to the history of rugby league in Brisbane?
Broncos represented the entire state between 1988 and 1995 after the death of the BRL as a serious competition. There was no one else to support.
Broncos and News Ltd did everything they could to kill the Crushers to retain their monopoly over Brisbane. It's why they had the city to themselves for 32 of the last 35 years.
Brisbane 2 was never going to get a monopoly on the city to become a carbon copy of the Broncos.
Blame Arthurson and Quayle for being petty enough to hand just one licence to Brisbane and choosing a private consortium over Ron McAuliffe because he was responsible for Queensland’s dominance in the 80s.
Arko did say they wanted to make sure the new brisbane license was a strong one
not choosing mcauliffes one was probably petty
they did say if their biggest regret was not admitting two sides at once
the real issue which you’ve raised before is in the mid 80s there should’ve been a merger of the nswrl and brl before before the nswrl started expanding to Illawarra and Canberra
then from that base build a National competition with real foundations in both its major states
people saying one or two nrl clubs are enough for Brisbane are just dopes
the problem is the broncos have become the city team so new teams have to skew to the regions like the dolphins have
Brisbane is a huge growth market for rugby league / nrl
Financially with a crowd of 20k at Suncorp they can make more with half at kayoIf Brisbane 2 tried to appeal to everyone then they would have ended up like Melbourne Heart/City. It's a shame Dolphin Oval doesn't have a capacity of at least 25k. If it did then it could have a 6-6 split with Lang Park. I cringe when I see them playing at Dolphin Oval. It's the worst venue in the NRL (in regards to its capacity).
Didnt need to, should have been Broncos concentrating on the North (with historical fans in South) and South Brisbane Firehawks concentrating south of river. Thats all you need in a city the size of Brisbane. Maybe in decades to come as Ipswich region grows you could have a team out there if its justified. Putting the Dolphins into a region already well covered by Broncos whilst leaving south of river empty other than some Broncos fans was plain stupidity. Are you completely oblivious to the history of rugby league in Brisbane?

untrue. Cost $400k to rent suncorp. 10k tickets at an avg $50 a ticket is $500k. So more than covers the rental cost. Add in the much greater corporate facilities at Suncorp and bingo.Financially with a crowd of 20k at Suncorp they can make more with half at kayo
I hate kayo too but they will do what’s best for them regardless

The fact you dont want to support either club and are clamoring for a third club already shows what a monumental f**k up it was choosing Dolphins over Firehawks.

They are playing at Kayo not for financial reasons, which they couldnt even fill at the weekend, but due to a misplaced sense of nostalgia of being a Redcliffe club.
