The Fiji National Rugby League is really saddened by the Fiji Rugby Unions decision to turn down a three year joint sponsorship offer by Vodafone/ Fiji Water. FNRL patron, Rajesh Singh said that if such offer comes up to them they are always ready to take it because it is for the benefit of local players who have a lot of passion for the game.
It is believed that FRU turned down more than $27million joint offer after signing on again with national sevens sponsors, Digicel.
FNRL is ready to take up this bid if offered to us, Singh said.
If such offer is given to us, we are ready to take it up for the benefit of our players.
This will be a major benefit for the players, local teams and most of all their different local clubs.
Singh added the country has a lot of potentials for local players in rugby league and such sponsorship offer would boost the players morale.
I am making an appeal to Vodafone and Fiji Water to assist in the sponsorship of local league and this way we would be able to produce more Jarryd Hayne and Noa Nadruku.
He said if they were going to be offered such a large amount sponsorship from the two companies, they would build a Vodafone/ Fiji Water Stadium which will see more incomes generated into them and the sponsors as well.
Local players have the talent but the main problem is the funding and sponsorship of local and overseas tournaments.
We will be honoured if such an offer is granted to us.
Meanwhile, Singh said that the local league is growing and such funding offered to them would see them touring Europe, England and other overseas tournaments, an exposure to the local players.
