Sutton can offload in traffic and has a nice long pass. He can pass .
His issue is that his passing game can sometimes become lazy and telegraphed especially some hand off ball passes to runners. He is not the best passing 5/8 because of this however his passing game is better than the average 5/8.
As for kicking , he as long kick , can do short kicks to the line and has a good strong up and under. He is not the best kicking 5/8 however is is very handy when needed. Name all the 5/8 with a better kicking game then Sutton .
Name the better defending 5/8?
He runs at the line like a secondrower because he is big enough to do that, he is NOT a fast stepping 5/8.
When Souths find a better 5/8 then they will move Sutton to secondrow , however they won't find that player at the Panthers.:lol:

His stats are decent......for a lock. As for a 5/6, there is a bit more to the position then just taking hitups.

He does well. His short kicking game has improved immensely, he throws the occasional hospital pass, but these days he is more likely to be creating opportunities with his offload, or working a combination with Luke and/or Inglis

I don't think he is a long term 5/8 because he can pretty much play the same role at lock you are right, but he is more than good enough to play in that position and definitely better than a lot of other 5/8s going around

Many years under shit coaches. Just 12 months under a good coach while we develop a real five eighth. Luke Keary is a big talent we have coming through, he'll wear the #6 next year.

Sutton is a solid lock playing in a #6 jersey. Inglis is our five eighth in the oppositions 20.

I'd keep him there, he is outstanding in the second row IMO. Stronger defence than Sam or Taylor and consistently breaking tackles. I'd love to be able to throw either Dave or Sam in off the bench to cause impact off the bench
