Sharks worse completion rate in the nrl this season. Someone needed to ask flannel about that.

Rooters most penalties conceded, storm most sin bins, that would indicate these teams use a lot of illegal tactics, probably even affects other teams completions.

I think the sharks averaged 51% possession per game this season, sometimes it actually matters where in the tackle count you fail to complete.

100% on those teams deliberately employing illegal tactics.

That should tell you something.

Too many incidents to remember.

In a f**king finals game where f**k ups should be very few.

Seriously teams playing this weekend should rejoice that those clowns aren't officiating this weekend.
Yeah, or maybe Flannel just made shit up; like Coote being offside and Valentine getting the ball before Maloney interfered with Lowe.

Perth Red is your typical Englishman - leaves their shit country for greener pastures then tells the locals how they're doing things wrong.

Deep down he probably doesn't want a team over there cos then he'd have to find something new to whinge about.

Cronulla Sharks: Our mistakes, not those of the ref, cost us
Cronulla players have taken responsibility for the shock loss to North Queensland, admitting their mistakes – not those of the referee – are the reason they didn't defend their title.

The fallout from an exciting and controversial opening weekend of the finals continues after Cronulla and Manly were issued breach notices of $30,000 and $20,000 respectively for their coach's criticism of match officials.

Sharks coach Shane Flanagan, livid after several close calls went against his side, aired his grievances immediately after the match and again via other media outlets. The NRL maintains its officials got the majority of close calls correct but, regardless, it was time to "grow up" and end the culture of referee bashing.

Cronulla playmaker James Maloney, who was controversially sin-binned in one of several turning points in the loss to the Cowboys, said "refs don't decide footy games".

"As soon as you start criticising refs, they're in a tough position," Maloney said.

"That stems down to how referees in junior footy and grassroots [are treated]. The refs have got to be respected, it's a dangerous precedent when you start having shots at them with where it leads to down the path.

"Then there's the other side where people want to see some accountability from the referees, that's the issue for people.

"At the end of the day I'm a big believer that the refs don't decide footy games, regardless of how things go.

"They're out there trying to do their best regardless. If they do get it the wrong way, I'm sure it's not intentional at all. In 80 minutes, when you look back, there's a lot of things you could have done differently to change the result. It is what it is, you live with it, move on and do it all again next year."

Maloney was marched from the field just before half-time for pulling back Ethan Lowe as the Cowboys forward pursued a grubber into the in-goal. His actions potentially prevented a try, but left his team a man down for 10 minutes. Asked about that incident, the NSW No.6 said: "They did say they were cracking down on escorts on kicks.

"I've seen Luke Lewis hit the ground a few times chasing kicks and then Lowey, there was a little bump. It is what it is.

"They made their call, I was off for 10 minutes and that's the way it went."

Both teams squandered countless opportunities to seal the result, but North Queensland prevailed in an extra-time thriller to book a clash with Parramatta. Veteran Cronulla forward Chris Heighington praised the grit of the Cowboys and stressed it was his own side's errors that proved telling.

"The refs have got to make a call, it's spur of the moment and they need to go with what they see," he said.

"You can't criticise them for that, they're just trying to do their best out on the field. Sometimes they get it wrong, sometimes they get it right, sometimes it's 50-50. You talk to one guy in the pub and he thinks it's a knock-on, you talk to the other one and he reckons it isn't.

"It's hard to blame the refs. We had plenty of opportunities to win the game."

Heighington, who is keen to add to his tally of 318 NRL games by playing on next season, said the Sharks needed to take responsibility for the result.

"Looking back on the game, we could have won it a few times over and they could of as well," he said.

"It was just our completions and discipline, it's been terrible all year and it came to show in the finals again. It's disappointing because in finals the completions need to be high and you can't give away penalties.

"They played well, we had chances to win as well. We weren't at our best and you have to be at our best for the big ones and we weren't."

The qutoes don't quite match the headline but they seem genuine borne out of disappointment of missed chances

Nice to see the sharks players showing some character.

Maybe it'll be a wake up call for flanno.

That's only because you're on the wrong side of the debate.

For everyone except whining sharks fans, this whole thread is f**king hilarious.

I actually think flano carried on like dick.
I've even said that in here.
So that'd make me on both sides?

My only issue is forcing coaches to face press conferences and then be fined if they mention a refereeing mistake.

The f**king Irony of who hasn't blamed the refs when their teams lose from dubious referring decesions....Should I grow up Greenburg....Yet we vilify our coaches for speaking the truth.

Greenberg is such a spastic. All he needed to do was keep his gob shut, fine flanno and baz $10k and it would all be done with.

Then he can come out with a tough guy line in the sand speech for future, not retrospective incidents.

Almost as funny Widdop kicking a ball straight into De Belin's head.

Anyway, it's good to see the sharks players take responsibility for Sunday.

There's no doubt flanno carried on like a dick. However, the presser and subsequent interviews looked premeditated, as if he was goading the NRL to fine him and draw attention to refereeing inconsistencies.

So he's either a martyr than carried on like a dick to achieve his goals, or just a dick.

I'm going with a bit of the former, but a whole heap of the latter.

We played shit no question about it but hell the refs didn't help...you know though you win some you lose some it's like we haven't won from dubious ref decesions, but saying that it's not the Sharks fault when the refs can't count tackles.

Agreed.

Trust me when I say I know what it's like leaving a game and feeling that had the refereeing been consistent for both teams, you probably would've won.
