2013 Draw wishlist

THE draw should be pulled from a barrel.

Even allowing for SOO and test matches, the games should be drawn at random so as not to draw speculation of favouritism as shown above with the story of a Souths V Easts opener.

Impartiality should be of the utmost importance here.

Say goodbye to all traditional matches then. A sure fire way to annoy all Rugby League fans.

Same Twitter account reporting the Tele story - the draft draw to R20 has totals for FTA matches:

Broncos 18
Bulldogs 14
Rabbitohs 14
Sea Eagles 10
Tigers 9
Eels, Cowboys, Dragons, Sharks 8
Roosters 7
Knights 5
Titans, Panthers 4
Raiders, Warriors 1

They don't mention the Storm but they can't be zero... they're on Thu Night in R3.

Got a feeling they'll put Tigers v Broncos on for Round 4 given it's Easter Thursday and they've met at Easter for the last 2 years. Unfortunately that would mean Dogs v Souths will be on Good Friday night not afternoon. No way 9 will not have a Friday Night game on a public holiday.

Raiders, Warriors 1

Cue complaining from Skeepe and Raidersdave in 5,4,3,2,1...

I'm sure it could if they wanted to.

They may opt not to broadcast the arvo one, who knows?

If the draw is like that, I'd say Fox will get the Friday afternoon game.

Dumb choice if that's what happens. Dogs/Souths on Good Friday Afternoon should get protected FTA status and be live nationwide given there's no other sport that day to compete with.

It's why fumbleball has been so successful with its matches on Easter Monday and Queen's Birthday. Same teams for at least the last 5 seasons and the games are on FTA nationwide.

We should start doing the same.

THE NRL will stage a Melbourne Storm-Bulldogs grand final rematch in a Thursday night blockbuster in round three of next year's premiership.

Channel Nine has chosen the Thursday night matches for the first three weeks, with the Roosters and Souths to open the season followed by the Eels and Bulldogs in the second round.

This column has been leaked details of an early draft of Channel Nine's free-to-air choices on Thursday, Friday and Sunday in the opening 20 rounds.

Again, the Brisbane Broncos will get more Channel Nine coverage than any other club because of the ratings they attract in Queensland.

It's understood 18 of their matches in the first 20 rounds will be shown on free-to-air on Thursday or Friday night.

Nine is obviously expecting the Rabbitohs and the Bulldogs to be highly competitive again because they have been given 14 free-to-air spots each.

The next best is Manly with 10 appearances.

The scheduling requests have come from Nine sports director Steve Crawley and Matt Callander, the station's head of rugby league broadcasts.

Surprisingly, Wayne Bennett's Newcastle Knights have been given only five games on free-to-air.

The Raiders and the Warriors have fared even worse withone game each.

The Cronulla Sharks, boosted by the signings of Beau Ryan, Luke Lewis and Michael Gordon, will get at least eight games. Nine is also expecting wooden-spooners Parramatta to improve under Ricky Stuart by choosing them for eight games.

The draw for the entire 26 rounds will not be finalised until the middle of next month.

Under the new broadcasting agreement with Nine and Fox Sports, full scheduling will be decided for the first 20 rounds.

Should Nine's early draft be ratified, the Broncos' domination of free-to-air games will be a major talking point among the rival clubs.

 Didn't take long.

We'll see how it pans out. I hope the Broncos don't have THAT many Friday games, would love to see us play Sundays like most Rugby League fans get to enjoy their club. It was just expected, Brisbane were a big part of the reason why 9 paid so much money for the deal.

Not spooking at all, merely asking you a question which you don't want to answer.

Your trying to be proactive by jumping on the defensive front foot, I get that, but all it shows is that you know it's true.
