The shoulder charge rule will always be interesting. In my opinion a shoulder charge should be legal but a player should be charged (with a heap of points) if the shoulder makes contact with the head.

It sounds simple enough.

yep
after all, it is the contact with the head that is the "danger" of the shoulder charge

That was how it was, but referees weren't penalising head-high tackles and the MRC wasn't applying consistent, much less reasonable, gradings and suspensions when someone got ironed out.

Same thing with with fighting and a bunch of other things.

The refs and judiciary are too scared of being crucified for ruining a game or season by making a decision. All the focus is on them rather than the dimwit who decided start punching on, attack the head of another player, or whatever else.

Is the dangerous throw where a player is lifted and dropped on his head? If so it is much more dangerous than a trip - it wouldn't be called dangerous for nothing.

Rules are meant for smart players to get around and meatheads like JReynolds to get caught by. Josh should study his Pommie captain, he's got the head butt down pat.

All it takes, like the shoulder charge, is a hint of arm contact intent prior to the dastardly deed, fines are for idiots who repeat offend . . . funnily enough Reynolds does far less damage than Graham
You mean the one on Burgess? The Pommie hard men from the past would be laughing their heads off.

I want to see an auto 10 in the bin and grade 2 contrary conduct charge for any player that deliberately throws the ball at an opposition player. Ugly/niggle shit that needs to go.

Kinda agree, I also want to see the end of the big stupid everyone runs in and pushes each other after a try thing, not letting go of the ball after getting tackled on the last and everyone from the opposite team running in to pat the head of the bloke who just dropped the ball

ONE charge from the first weekend of trials after none at the Auckland Nines.

Funaki will miss 2 games with an early plea due to his Carryover points.

The hard men of the game past that isn't NRL were all trying to knock each other's heads off . . . I remember, in the late 60's I think, watching Cliff Watson show Pogo Morgan the right way to kiss in Liverpool

How many weeks for James Roberts' disgraceful behaviour?
Hopefully however many it is the entire Raiders side gets the same for their disgraceful display on Saturday v Newcastle.

Would not even blink at 2-4 weeks for that. Pathetic that the ref did nothing about it and even worse that the MRC didn't see fit to charge him with anything.

I say that as a Broncos fan.

Three Storm players charged after Bulldogs clash
Sat 04 Mar, 2017, 5:30pm
NRL.com

Storm trio Will Chambers, Cameron Munster and Cheyse Blair have all been charged by the NRL Match Review Committee after their side's 12-6 win over the Bulldogs at Belmore.

Chambers has been charged with grade one contrary conduct for his role in starting a melee. This charge carries a $1,500 fine, reduced to $1,100 with an early guilty plea.

Munster has been charged with grade one tripping, a charge that also incurs a $1,500 fine under the new judiciary system. Munster can also have his fine reduced to $1,100 with an early guilty plea.

Blair was charged with a grade one dangerous throw for a lifting tackle on Bulldogs five-eighth Josh Reynolds in the 69th minute of the match. The base penalty for this charge is 100 points, but Blair has a 20 per cent loading for a prior non-similar offence in the past two years, taking his total points to 120. This can be reduced to 90 points with an early guilty plea meaning Blair would not miss a match.

An early guilty plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent.

A player receives a one game ban for every 100 points they accrue. Blair's points will be reduced by five points per match, provided he does not receive further charges.

Raiders forward faces one-game ban
Sun 05 Mar, 2017, 3:30pm
NRL.com

Canberra forward Clay Priest, Raiders teammate Joey Leilua and Roosters forward Mitchell Aubusson have all been charged by the NRL Match Review Committee following their Round 1 Telstra Premiership matches.

Priest has been charged with grade one dangerous contact to the head/neck, and as he has a prior similar offence in the past two years has incurred a further 50 per cent loading. This means the base charge of 100 points increases to 150 points, so even with an early guilty plea the points would only reduce to 112.

This means Priest would miss one match (100 points).

Leilua has been charged with grade one contrary conduct in the Raiders' clash with the Cowboys on Saturday night. This charge carries a fine of $1,500 but Leilua has a prior non-similar offence in the past two years, increasing the fine to $1,800. Leilua can take an early guilty plea and pay a $1,350 fine.

Roosters forward Aubusson has been charged with a grade one dangerous throw on Titans co-captain Ryan James, which has a base penalty of 100 points. Aubusson can take an early guilty plea to reduce his penalty to 75 points and hence not miss a match.

Bit harsh on Taupau and AFB....facing three weeks according to Fox Sports for shoulder charges.

Thought both should have been penalised during the game, no further punishment tbh...
