Tom Latham must be the most overrated player in the history of test match cricket. I can't believe how nobody delves deep into his numbers and just sees the average of 40 and has him as our best opener ever, McCullum at least has mentioned it a few times this season.

16 innings against Australia - average 26.5 (0 centuries)
14 innings against England - average 36.5 (1 century)
18 innings against India - average 32 (0 centuries)
10 innings against South Africa - average 9.8 (0 centuries which is obvious as he hasn't cracked 100 runs against them yet)
18 innings against Pakistan - average 31 (2 centuries)

So across his 48 innings vs the big three and SA he has managed one century, he's putting up Bryan Young figures. Sure, trot him out against Bangas, SL and the Zimbots, but he's a waste of space against the rest. If he has to be in the team then he should be batting 5 or 6.

Latham well behind Turner, Dempster, Sutcliffe, Richardson, Wright for starters. He’s got a lot to prove against quality pace

We miss Williamson so much…. And I’m tired of two test series, both teams deserve a crack at winning this…

World Champs unbeaten home streak continues shakily, pretty mediocre this summer

Kiwis with some very unkiwi like inconsistency this summer. Either flogging teams or on the end of floggings themselves.

Certainly miss Williamson for both batting and captaincy. This current team has shown a disturbing inability in the last few tests to knuckle down when things aren't going their way (especially batting) and that comes back to mentality/attitude. The batsmen fall for obvious traps and get themselves out rather than being bowled out (although I do respect this crop of SA bowlers). Then the lower order just starts swinging when we're 6 or 7 down, when not so long ago tailender runs was one of our strengths.
