It finally happened and I guess in a way it was inevitable at some stage that Petone couldnt field a team. So with it Table topping Randwick picked up the default. Wellington competition rules say that the team defaulted to pick up an automatic 30-0 scoreline to make up for the for and against tallies that otherwise would have occured. A sad loss, I hope that this does not spell the end for Petone's season or for Petone as a club (One of the oldest in Wellington).

The first finals Matches are this weekend.

Randwick finished the season unbeaten and in 1st place and are rewarded with the bye.

The Elimination Final between 4th placed Upper Hutt and 5th placed University shapes to be a cracker. Both teams having a win each in the round-robin series. The match will be played at Upper Hutt's Whakatiki Street Park. You can expect a rather parochial and boisterous home crowd.

At Ascot Park, 2nd placed Porirua will play 3rd placed Wainuiomata. This also Promises to be a ripper of a match. Again, with honours shared in the regular season.
This game can really go either team's way.

The Grand final Will be contested between rank outsiders University and unbeaten Randwick. Randwick get there by virtue of being Unbeaten all season and winning the only final that they had to play. University deservedly qualify for the final by finishing the regular season in fifth place and handing out three outright hidings to home teams and higher table performers Upper Hutt, Wainuiomata and Porirua. The last win against Porirua was a 58-12 dicking.

First City team in GF since 1995. Hunters first grand final and first win.
