Captains challenge

Captains challenge is only a good thing if it reduces the use of technology during the game.

Or ref blaming generally.
The beauty of the captains challenge is that the fans will blame the captains for stuffing up rather than the refs, which is exactly the way it should be though I would probably rather coaches challenge because I am still at a loss as to how coaches earn their money.

Referees have always made mistakes. People and media have always complained about it.

The only thing that has changed is the overly dramatic doom and gloom attitude from the crisis merchants.

The biggest thing is every game is live on tv with mass replays from every angle.

Back in the day if a howler was made on a non tv game only people in the ground could see it from their viewing angle and you read about it in the papers with no video footage so the crisis merchants didnt have as much ammo to fire with...

Even when it was on TV there was a lot less replays and commentators. They use to have two commentators rather than this panel of four you have now.

You basically have refs being hung out to dry for things that it has taken the commentators 3 or 4 replays to work out what has gone on. Half the time the commentators blow up then on replay realise they are wrong and the ref was right and you don't get an apology or acknowledgement of how hard it is to ref.

Exactly
A ref actually makes a call and a day later a coach or a commentator with the assistance of red lines and Pythagoras theory reckon a pass that looked a mile forward actually went backwards because of the rotation of the earth.

Knee jerk reactions to the whining of Gould, Johns and Fittler gets what we had at the start of this year.

If we accept that mistakes will happen, then we will all be fine (and I love a good ref bashing)

Get rid of the video ref. Accepting mistakes made by officials in real time is much easier than accepting the stuff ups made by morons watching replay after replay.

Stupid idea.
How will it speed up the game?
The referees still won't have the balls to make a decision and will go to the video ref on all decisions anyway. If they actually do make a call and then the captain challenges, it will go to the video anyway.

The bunker will be the one making the decisions on the captains challenge and the bunker gets it wrong now.

The whole point is the referees won’t have a chance to go to the video
They make their call and if the captain disagrees, only then does it go to the video

Captains challenge is stupid in cricket and it would be even more stupid in RL where the rules are a lot less black and white. It shouldn't be up to the players to decide anything, just opens a can of worms.

Just get back to one ref and only have the bunker ruling on putdowns and touchline for tries.

How it works is the referee makes the decision, he has no option to go to the bunker. If the captain disagrees with the decision then he challenges it. No challenge no bunker, speeds up the game massively. I've wanted this system since the video ref was introduced.

If a captain wastes their challenges then there is no one else to blame. We will still get the occasional wrong decision by the bunker but I can live with that.

The thing wrong with the system though is if the captain blows his 2 reviews early, later in game if there is a dud call they can’t review it.

If we bring in the captain's challenge then one year after it's implemented it will be the worst thing to ever happen to rugby league, the referees will be in crisis and worse than ever and the game will be officially ruined and about to die.
