By the looks of the lenghts of these contracts, I guess they're hoping that these players will cut it. As if they don't they won't have any spots left to change their roster next year. I would of thought the Coast would of signed some players to 1 year deals.

True - though Im pretty happy with the lengths offered, if anything I would have preferred longer ones - though the two that really matter - Ptince and Bailey have beem locked up for four years.

As for the players cutting it - they havent really chosen too many unproven players really. Look at the probable starting 17 - there arent any no names or unproven players at first grade there.

Sure but every year players are signed that don't work out for their new club.

If the Titans under-perform, it seems they're locked in with their current squad, with little chance of bringing in new talent...

2 year contracts arent exactly long or expensive to buy out if a player is not working - every club works with those constraints so I dont see how the Titans will be any different. There will always be a couple of players that dont work out - they get released or bought out. Cant see that being too much of a problem here though.

If a club buys out a contract, that money still counts towards the salary cap, so in effect he's still in the squad for the next year, he just doesn't play for them.

It's not in most cases it's in all cases. If a club buys out a players contract they're still paying a player money. Like Lance Thompson this year, the Dragons paid out part of his contract. That money has to count towards either this years or last years cap depending on when he got paid and other salary cap rules.

Amos Roberts also when he left the Dragons a few years ago wasn't offered as much at the Panthers as he was on at the Dragons so the Dragons had to make up the difference to match his old contract with the Dragons.
