Cooper Cronk out for Origin II

Daly Cherry-Evans will step into the spotlight in the biggest possible way for Queensland after Maroons halfback Cooper Cronk was ruled out of game two in Melbourne with a knee injury.

The Queensland matchwinner will miss three-four weeks after scans revealed a meniscus tear in his right knee. He was to undergo surgery on Tuesday morning.

Cronk was injured in Melbourne's 20-0 win over the Panthers on Saturday night and original indications suggested he would be available for game two at the MCG, where Queensland will try to wrap up the series.

After pulling up well on Sunday morning and medical staff confident the injury would respond well to treatment during the week, Cronk woke on Monday morning with the knee feeling worse and was sent for scans.

Playing any further would put Cronk at risk of further damaging his knee, so surgery to repair the tear was decided as the best course of action.

It's now possible to have both Daly Cherry Evans and Michael Morgan in the side. The other option is choosing Ben Hunt over Cherry Evans, but from Mal Meninga comments being a big fan of Daly Cherry Evans, I doubt that option will happen.

Queensland in the enviable position of having the three form halfbacks in the competition to choose from - Cronk, DCE and Hunt.

Oh ... then there's Luke Keery.

Will the small minded and moronic Queenslanders continue boo one of their own, Cherry Evans, afterall he's a traitor, he didn't sign for a Queensland team.....go figure!

After what we saw on friday night, choosing Cherry over Hunt does not match up at all with Mal's comments about form deciding who gets selected. Hunt outplayed DCE comprehensively and pretty much has all season.

DCE's form the last month has been great in a terrible Manly side. He's the logical replacement.

Why would broncos fans care about who did or didn't sign with the Titans?

DCE will likely get the starting spot, which worries me a little. He's been OK when we're at full strength, but when he does come on, Thurston/Cronk/Smith all stay on the field..He has very little responsibility and can play how he wants. Last year while Cronk was out he looked completely lost.

Give Thurston the 7, DCE 6, if DCE goes missing in the first half, hook him for Morgan and let their club combo do it's thing. 2 games last year and 1 this year should be enough to judge whether he's ready to step up as an Origin starter, it's more than what most NSW halves get. If Cronk is back for game 3, Morgan at 6 and Hunt on the bench.

This could very well be the first time Melbourne is a neutral ground..Usually the love for Storm's big 3 make the crowd pro-QLD, but dislike for DCE if selected in the starting side could take over.

Will be interesting to see what happens.
