My Jewish family will appreciate that

I was whistling that tune for a few days after I first got the news though

You were singing it the week before the op when we spoke!

Hope your recovery is going well, sorry I coldnt make it round that week, I was hardly even home for 3 weeks straight there with work.

Thanks guys

Weird bloody treatment this chemo

I came home all fired up after a session and did forty minutes on the cross trainer!
Now I've just woken up from a one hour nap as I fell asleep at 9.30

So far trying to keep food down to portion sizes that don't make me want to throw up is the biggest challenge. Luckily they have given me drugs that turn off the vomit centre of the brain.

The other challenge is keeping myself entertained while I have the treatments. The wifi hasn't been working so I have been watching Games of Thrones on my Nexus. But there is only so much of one show I can watch in a row. Was thinking of taking my breaking bad DVDs in, but not sure how appropriate that is for a cancer centre

Thanks for the read, I've had someone close to me go through surgery and chemo/radiation so it's brought back memories.

I remember ulcers from chemo and you go off your food as the chemo affects the taste buds and possibility you're sleeping pattern.

All the best for you mate. Cancer, it's a merkin of a thing

BB haha... True Detective is decent if you want a change of pace, also the NRL app to rewatch Origin 3 (don't need to buy the subscription to watch old games).

Thankfully I got the wifi working today in the clinic

Finally got on top of the nausea today and I also saw the last part of the first cycle of chemo so it was a better day than yesterday.

Yeah Diesel they warned me about mouth ulcers so I have had a strategy. Mainly eating soup and veggies and using alcohol free mouthwash.

Thankfully I won't have to spend any more time in the clinic for another fortnight
Then hopefully one more week and that will be it.

Damn cancer.

I finished the first cycle of chemo on Friday except for an injection today.

After nausea ad nauseum since Thursday I finally got over it on Sunday afternoon
Today I went in for a bleomycin injection. Had breakfast, coffee etc and felt ok

The coffee was hard to swallow but other than that I was fine
Then I tried tea. Couldn't swallow. Ulcers down the inside of my throat. Urgh.

Now I have to rinse with salt water hourly and watch what I eat. Chicken soup and plain bread

f**k this is shit

The ulcers weren't ulcers they were a sore throat and possible infection

Monday night I developed a fever and was admitted to emergency and kept in for observation

Geez emergency is a bundle of fun. We had a girl wandering round looking for a doctor, but as she wasn't an Aussie resident they refused to look at her unless she paid. Her ailment? She'd taken cocaine (or something resembling it) and had a panic attack. The doctors told her to either pay or piss off. Personally I would have given her a decent examination, she was fit

Then in the bay next to me was an old homeless guy that had shit himself in the bed. The nurses were trying to undress and clean him up, but he wasn't being exactly cooperative. The smell when they finally unravelled him from the sheets he'd wrapped himself in was charming to say the least.

Anti bionics and fluids accepted I finally came back to normal and then had to wait 12 hours for someone to look at me and say I could go home. At least they gave me a sleeping tablet and a quiet spot in the corner away from shit streaked alkies.

Discharged and told to stay away from work for at least a week. Seems fevers aren't all bad.

did they say what might have caused the cancer???

No, I used to smoke, but I have rarely done this over recent years and my lung function was at 100% when I was tested. Other than that blot on my younger record, I am in a low risk category lifestyle wise. Healthy eater, regular exerciser etc.

There is a history of cancer in my family with three out of four grandparents having it at some point.

However, the specialist only said that testicular cancer was on the rise and they are at a loss to understand why.

i think alot of cancers are on the rise. there are probably lots of reasons why. stuff they put in water which they shouldnt, stronger sprays on foods, pollution etc
history of it in the family probably increased the chance of you getting it though but i doubt its the only reason

I've seen some articles like this http://www.dailytech.com/New+Study+Shows+Cell+Phones+Are+No+Friend+of+Gonads/article13011.htm

That have linked Mobile phones sitting in mens pockets to causing some issues with the swimmers, So it wouldn't be far off to think it could cause damage other levels down there.

I often wondered about that. I always carry my phone in my back pocket
Strange it got my bollocks before my prostate though

But I wouldn't be surprised if this was a factor

Hey Alien

Right now I am doing really well. I have been scanned an no more tumours and my blood counts after the first round of chemo show that I am back in normal range, so unlikely to develop any other tumours any time soon.

I have to start my second round of chemo on Monday so back to another two weeks of feeling like crap starts then. But that's the last cycle so I am really looking forward to getting it done and dusted.

The worst side effect is the nausea and indigestion. Hopefully I can minimise them and get through this second round ok. Oh, then there's hair loss that will probably start next week. I have given the hair a bit of a pep talk and told the dark ones to hang in there and the greys to sacrifice themselves for the greater good :p

I hadn't read about the pot oil. I will look at that later. Thanks.

Yeah you'd think there would have to be some consequences from having prolonged low level radiation next to the man berries. Anyways that's for the egg heads to figure out.

Mate I wish you all the best in your recovery and hope you are back to 100% soon.
