The Paceway in 2019 (being the last full financial year before Covid) ran at a loss of $142k off a revenue base of $8.3m ($120k profit before depreciation).

Per para 13.2 of the financials pokie profit was $882k.

Essentially despite having little in the way of financing costs it can't turn a profit and would be $1m loss without the reverse ATMs.

How does it expect to survive at the current site or even a new one?

Outside of building a new casino with a track outside for legitimacy it's in purgatory.

I guess that why they were hoping to sell the current spot for development, move somewhere cheaper and use the profit to set themselves up for the future?

If the council are so opposed to apartments on the paceway site it will be interesting to see what they use the current Panthers stadium site for?

Council own the other site that’s the big difference

I suspect it will be a park or community facilities
Even if they left it as is for junior sports in the area it will get used

Frankly I couldn't give a stuff about cricket. I am only thinking about the best experience for the spectator and player from a rectangular sports perspective. Building these multi purpose stadiums may save some money, but in the long term ruins the spectacle for 3 different codes and their supporters and only benefits one sport from that perspective and sometimes not even great for that because it isn't quite big enough. As for athletics? Oh please, not even worth thinking about when it comes to popularity and adversely effecting stadiums because of it.

Over the long term how many tickets are lost by not building a theater of dreams that compels the fan to come back time and time again addicted to an intimate experience that only a close and up personal vantage point can deliver? I for one don't attend oval shaped grounds anymore or even ones that pretend to be stadiums but are parks with hills. I wonder how many others there are that do the same? If you don't think it has much baring on attendance, you only have to look back at the Warriors home coming sellout or the NZ vs Tonga game. All 3 grandstands full, the one grassy hill behind the goalposts virtually empty or sparsely attended.

The majority of people want convenience, intimacy, luxury and shelter. To ignore this simple and obvious fact is to undermine the sports that plays in these arenas. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Cricket and the 3 football codes are very different and played on very different shaped fields and sizes. Trying to be multi purpose for everyone is hobbling 3 of the 4 sports that will play there. This one size fits all mentality is a major problem for our football codes both in NZ and Aus. Thank God V'Landys here in Aus has enough sense to demand and is receiving the right type of builds to accommodate RL and the other two rectangular field playing codes. If you build them right and where the people want them, they will pay for themselves.

The new video screen on the Gold Coast is an improvement over the old one but a big missed opportunity for screens similar to old Allianz behind the in-goal area. I'm guessing they want no less than 27k capacity for the Olympics and the screens would take away valuable seats

Here is a link of some very nice stadiums that are opening up around the world next year. In particular I like the smaller ones. Very affordable and would rejuvenate surrounding suburbs if planed well and next to transport links and amenities. Very small investment outlay for an asset that will bring so many people and businesses together over at least 40-50 years and become a focal point of that district and community.

If you broke it down it would be less then around $300K-$1m a year type of expense that would return way more annually through commerce and community connection and investment. It's like investing in peoples local activities and recreation with a positive health and wealth outcome.

Again, there would be no shortage of tenants that would want to use these amazing little stadiums from Soccer, Union and RL mid tier comps. For starters all our NSW Cup teams would make a bee line to them and also the NRLW comp would be perfectly suited to these 5K-10K stadiums and it would look fantastic on TV for the networks to sell it with atmosphere and vibe.

I mean how hard is it to convince our Governments to fork out $20-40m for one of these bad boys since they are so easily convinced to give out similar amounts for COE that also do a similar job too. The difference though being that these amenities are something that will be for the people and return money back to the community way more if built in the right place and size. Location, location, location.

Oh I love the Donauparkstadium in particular which will hold around 5-6K and will cost around $18-$22m Australian to build. Would be perfect to have around 10-15 or so of these types of stadiums and then the occasional 10K stadium thrown in.

What a buzz for any community if they had something like this to enjoy as their own all year round.

And how good is this little beauty? Plough Lane Stadium Wimbledon. Holds just over 9K and cost around $57m Aussie. Look how it has reinvigorated their community. How good is all the blue and gold seating too. I wish Parra was like that.

And just to re-enforce what positive effect it brings to the people and watch how close and on top of the action you are when the the game is on. It would be an awesome way to watch your chosen sport. I would be a regular at RL games for sure. What a brilliant way to spend an afternoon with some friends or even on my own. Would be well worth it. I felt like I was watching Parra play just skinnier players who just kept kicking the ball.

Also look how happy the girl who shot the video is at the end. Does anyone think she would have felt the same if the game was being played at one of the too many hovel suburban parks we call stadiums or would she have even gone to watch a game at our lower tier venues?

I know it's different in England and their lower division football comps are also very popular, but still if the game was being played at a park versus such a lovely venue do you think she would have gone? People today want buzz and quality. Without it good luck getting them to come back regularly or even going at all.

Also the ticket pricing is very reasonable as you would expect starting as low as £4 for kids and as high as £35 for adults but averaging around £20-£25 for adults a game.

Who you envisage would use a 6-9kstadium? smaller Aleague clubs maybe but I can’t see rl fans laying $40-50 to watch our pseudo reserve grade comps at one of them?

england has 3 divisions of professional soccer under epl with second division semi professional rl and union also being small so a sub 10k stadium is adequate. we dont have that in australia and people don’t support sport outside the top flight comps in any numbers to justify it. Seems a lot of money to throw at baby white elephants!
