Malcolm Reynolds sat at the control panel. Another day, another trek across the verse. He put his hands behind his head and smiled.
He didn't smile often. Times were hard; work was getting less and less easy to find and harder to accomplish. The ship needed repairs, and his crew, although they weren't complaining, hadn't been paid in weeks.
But all was right with the world at the moment. He was staring into the murky darkness of deep space.
A small red light alerted him first.
*bleep**bleep**bleep**bleep**bleep*
Wash was first to the deck.
"I think we have company," Mal murmured, his smile gone and his voice concerned. He got up to move for Wash.
"I think you're right," Wash agreed, his voice calm as his hands and fingers moved across the control pattern.
It emerged quickly. A massive Alliance warship.
"I told you I would find her, Captain," the operative said smoothly. "I am going to retrieve her, and you will not stop me..."
Wash fired the after burners and they shot through space again, escaping the imminent threat.
Mal didn't sigh with relief though. The Operative was going to keep coming, and it was going to take all they had to stop him from killing River Tam...
Drew-Sta is alive and unkillable. He is independently aligned Serenity, awesome ship.
