BULLS SOUND WARNING TO CUP WANNABEES
1/9/2007
In what was the most comprehensive performance since last year’s Grand Final, the Sydney Bulls have shaken off any winter blues, throwing down their premiership gauntlet to the three remaining Jim Beam Cup contenders with a 50-10 semi final trumping of The Entrance last Saturday.

It was a performance to savour as amongst the Bulls best eighty minute efforts ever-but coach, David Bayssari is keen to stay focussed on next weekend's game, against minor-premiers Cabramatta, who smashed the Bulls by forty the last time the two arch-rivals went head to head.
"I'll be looking for the same focus as today-and if our pack can go to the next level then anyone who reckons they can take the [Jim Beam] Cup away from us will have to do it the hard way", a determined Bayssari claimed.
Indeed it was the Bulls forwards who laid the platform against The Entrance, none more so than Bulls warhorse Jason Asplett, who initiated much of the roll created during a devastating opening quarter that saw the Tigers concede sixteen unanswered points.
Previously out of form three quater, Nathan Ford, was in champagne touch, setting up his right hand receive man, Danny Barakat, with two tries from trademark bottom of the hand flicks, while a Steve Jolly break, with a perfectly weighted kick on the end of it, gave fleet footed Adnan Saleh his first of the afternoon.
On the back of a sudden surge of penalties and possession, The Entrance peppered the Bulls red zone in a sustained attempt to claw themselves back into the match. The Premiers defence, however, was resolute as was the sweep of the back three, in particular Dane Gilmore at fullback who was anchor solid in the face of some dangerous Tiger raids.

As a result of some sustained pressure Entrance winger, Ryan Wheele, managed to jag an inevitable try ten minutes out from the break but a sweet chip and chase from Bulls half, Luke Millwood, feeding try-hungry utility Chris Salem, stretched the halftime advantage to three converted scores.

Early in the second half, following a stinging gee up from coach and former Jim Beam Cup premiership captain Jamie Forbes, an increasingly desperate Tigers outfit threw everything they had at the Bankstown crew, drawing first blood via a bullocking try to backrower Courtney Rolfe.
The Bulls accepted the renewed challenge, rolling their sleeves to deliver some knock out blows-firstly with a powerful Puna Rasaubale try adjacent to the posts and then a slick touchdown to five-eight Nathan Wynn who hunted alongside a Dane Gilmore half-break to snatch a well deserved four pointers.

Minute’s later evergreen Bulls veteran, Chris Smith, also managed to claw his way to the line from close range topping off an afternoon where he was in the thick of the action from go to woe-coming up with a collection of try saving tackles and pressure relieving hitups.

The second half procession of tries continued unabated with both Salem and Saleh collecting doubles, Salem with a miracle bit of lightning anticipation, while Saleh was on the end of a spectacular chain of running and passing that was nothing short of a privilege to have witnessed-a try perhaps the equal to any seen on The Cabramatta Sports Ground this year or any other.
A man who played a crucial role in the spectacular four pointer- handling twice, flying down the left flank and putting on a magic goose-step was prop-forward and match standout, Puna Rasaubale, who may well have to hand in his front-rowers' Union ticket after displaying such, hitherto, unexpected skill levels.

With the Bulls playing with such new found intensity, gun performers were hard to distinguish as, to a man, the Premiership defenders put on their A-Game face- phenomena seem sparingly this season-if at all.

On the receiving end of Saturday's demolition job, The Entrance Tigers now face extinction at the hands of an in-form and keen-eyed Wentworthville team, while the Sydney Bulls Grand Final qualifier against Cabramatta should be an encounter to savour. The double header will be played next Saturday at Cabramatta Sports Complex commencing 1PM, Sydney Bulls being the late game at 3.00pm

Sydney Bulls 50 (D. Barakat 2, A. Saleh 2, C. Salem 2, C. Smith, N. Wynn, P. Rasaubale: N. Wynn 7 goals)
dft.
The Entrance 10 (R. Wheele, C. Rolfe tries; G. Westwood goal)

yea feel sorry for entrance, had to happen before the finals. They were highly regarded as contenders for the finals until the downfall of dramas within the club. No team morale nor motivation to keep them in. Hopefully this changes as they face Wentworthville this weekend.

Looking forward to Cabra & Bulls Clash, its def. a repeat of last years clash but hopefully without that terrible weather they had last yr ;-)

Lets go 2 BLUES!!!!!!!!

Didnt watch the Entrance vs Wenty game but hear The Entrance won pretty confidently.

Syd Bulls and Cabra clash was a nail biting game. Cabra led first half 24 to Bulls 4. In the second half Syd Bulls won 28 - 24. Good come back from Bulls. Cabra was sleeping the 2nd half and Bulls attacked feriously and picked up on Cabras weakness.

Congratulations to Syd Bulls who made a come back and are straight in the Grand Finls.

Cabra now faces The Entrace at Wentworthvilles home ground Ringrose Park next Saturday.
Hopefully they win and is not a repeat of 2001 :)

Good luck Boys! GO CABRA!

The Entrance 28 (S Corrigan 2, J Davis, V Hemmings, T Woodley tries A Moore 4 goals) beat Wenty 6 (D Howard try S Mowbray goal).

The Entrance recovered from their shellacking at the hands of the Bulls last week to eliminate Wenty with ease today. For the Tigers Nathan Ward returned from an 11 week suspension and fitted back in without any problems and Jamie Davis resumed to the centres after a 1 match suspension. The latter change meant that Brett Blaker returned to the backrow to restore some starch to what was a very soft pack at their previous start.

Unlike lst week, The Tigers got possession early, exerted pressure and score first through left centre, Shaun Corrigan. Danny Howard even the scores mid way through the first half but both Entrance centres scored again before the break so that Tigers led 16-6 at the break. Wenty showed little imagination or fluency and rarely threatened. The Tigers scored twice in the last minutes to blow out the margin.

The Sydney Bulls, formed in 2000, came back from a 24-0 deficit to enter their 6th grand final in 7 years (Wenty scored a try 11 seconds from the end in 2003 to deny a continuous sequence).

The game started with several errors by both teams in a nervous opening 5 minutes but a few penalties allowed Cabra to move the ball downfield before captain Tippett opened the scoring with a penalty goal. From there the Blues moved into overdrive with the Brown brothers and Richie Parker appearing to be unstoppable around the centre of the ruck whivh created opportunities for each of the back trio to score as well as the pint sizes Jones. At 24-0 there was no where to hide. Adnan Saleh got one back for The Bulls from a Millwood cross kick before the break.

With Nohra in the bin for 10 minutes the Bulls resumed with 12 men. This did not prevent Saleh adding a second and then be denied his hat trick when the linesman ruled he was in touch when diving over in the corner. When Saleh scored again after a nice feed from Naiqama and Wynn goaled from the sideline, a 24-16 scoreline with 20 to go gave the Bulls supporters some hope.

The Blues forwards who seemed unstoppable in the first half were now put to the sword by enthusiastic but much smaller opponents. Playing with passion the Bulls moved into the red zone again and Salem forced his way over from dummy half. A 2 point margin with 10 to go. Again the Bulls surged and Gilmore lept above the pack like an AFL player to regain possession and see Naiqama go over. The Bulls lead for the first time after 75 minutes. With the game in the balance the Bulls make an error but the Blues reciprocate. With 2 minutes on the clock possession maintenance is the key but Chris Smith, who always has to play 15 kilos above his weight, capped off a man of the match performance by splitting the defence and racing 40 metres to score.

As much as last week's performance was unexpected, to post 30 points in the second half against the top side after being totally outplayed in the first, is even more astonishing. The Bulls may have significantly less talent on their roster than in previous seasons but they are playing as if they have a right to succeed.

Cabra missed Chris Yates today.

Preliminary Final

The Entrance 18 (J McLeod 2, K Thompson tries, A Moore 3 goals) beat Cabramatta 16 (K Heckenberg, M Alifaologo, G Britcher tries S Aiga 2 goals) at Ringrose Park.

As was the case last week, Cabra started at a frenetic pace and led 10-0 after 12 minutes. I observed, 5 weeks ago when Cabra played Wenty, that Tippett was carrying a groin injury. The warm up before this game indicated that the injury was now chronic and he was a passenger. It also meant that Cabra would not have the benefit of his goalkicking.

The Entrance steadied and then came back with 2 tries before the break to take a 12-10 lead to the sheds. In the second try the Cabra left side defence broke down but prop Chris Yates put in a magnificent effort to race across field to stop the winger only see Don Thompson miss his opposite man from the offload.

The Entrance went further ahead with a converted try 3 minutes after the resumption. While Cabra didnt fall in a heap like they did against the Bulls last week they were met with a steely determination from the Tigers defenders. Quite separate from the groin injury, there has to be a question about whether Tippett should have played after being knocked out twice last week. Mid way through the second half it happened again and Tippett looked in a bad way with the oxygen mask on before the ambulance arrived on full time.

Some great work by Gruzka one of the few occasions he got to touch the ball saw Britcher score to cut the margin to 2 points with 16 minutes to go but Cabra did not have sufficient penetration to go the final yards.

It was clear to me that Francis Betham, playing for the first time in about 8 weeks, was also not fit. Several times Jamie Davis ran around an immobile Betham in the same manner that a fit Betham does regulary to his opposition. I thought that Gruzka was wasted on the wing and the problem in the centres could have been solved by bringing him closer to the action.

The Entrance play the Bulls at the Sydney Football Stadium on saturday

Francis Betham was still with the same injury on his return and had no fitness training at all over the 8x weeks. He was supposed to come off as his legs were out done but with Tippets injury and the bench empty, what could he do but carry it off.

Once again, a huge disappointment to Cabra, they have never ever made the Grand Finall and certainly a repeat of 2001 as minor premiers.

Good luck to the Finalists this weekend!

Wheele dealt bad hand on eve of grand final
20Sep07

Ryan Wheele will miss the Jim Beam Cup grand final after being diagnosed with a broken hand this week.

THE Entrance winger Ryan Wheele will miss the Jim Beam Cup grand final against the Sydney Bulls tomorrow after X-rays revealed this week he has broken his hand in three places.

Wheele injured his hand in the Tigers' 18-16 win over Cabramatta in Saturday's final but was confident the damage was minimal.
``I'm shattered,'' Wheele said.
``This was going to be it for me. I was going to give the game away if I could win another grand final with the club.''
In a rugged match against Cabramatta, Wheele injured his hand 20 minutes from full-time and then suffered a head gash three minutes from the end.
He played on battered and bruised to see his side to victory before he saw the doctor after the match. He was given 11 stitches to repair the head wound.
``It was when he was stitching my head I said you better have a look at my hand too,'' Wheele said.
``He thought it was probably only ligament and tendon damage. On Sunday it was feeling better and I could make a fist but the X-ray on Monday revealed three fractures.''
Wheele, 28, played in the Tigers' 2003 grand final win over Wentworthville. He then went to England for two years before pulling on the boots for the Tigers again last year.
He had only missed one game all year before this latest injury and was going to give up the game after this season due to work commitments.
``The boys are asking me to play one more year,'' Wheele said.
Brett Blaker, Jamie Davis, Brian Tritton and coach Jamy Forbes were all part of the 2003 grand final-winning side and are hoping to win the club's second Jim Beam Cup title at the Sydney Football Stadium tomorrow.

The replacement of Ryan Cribb for Wheele is likely to be the only change to the side that defeated Cabramatta last week.
The Bulls head into the match as favourites after thrashing The Entrance 50-10 in their previous match.
The grand final will be a curtain raiser to the NRL premliminary final between Manly and the Cowboys and kicks off at 5.25pm.

Was at the JBC player of the year awards last night , Alex Moore from the entrance was named player of the year, unfortunately due to the bush fires on the free way neither erina or the entrance were able to attend.

They also talked about 2008 and confirmed 3 new teams, Western Reds, Cambeltown Eagles and a Cronulla team(apparantly same team entering new open age comp??). Also said they were currently in talks with 2 more teams.

The other 2 teams are Western Suburbs and North Sydney. The statements in the press were that it is Cronulla Caringbah that was seeking to enter JBC, not another side from Cronulla Sutherland Cobras, which appears to be a rebadge of the Sharks second squad.

The East Campbelltown situation is a bit strange. The Canterbury A grade major semi was played at the Crest and the East Campbelltown team looked weaker than Wenty 3rd grade (A reserves).

Wests have withdrawn their nomination. I don't think there'll be any 'talks' on it at least as far as 08 is concerned. We'd like to have a side as the end of Flegg leaves a huge hole between Ball and NSWRL Cup for us, but it's not financially viable.
