Josh Dugan officially signs a 4 year deal with the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks

You know what - good on Dugan. He secured himself a deal that will set him up for the future. The only thing that bugs me is about him saying he is a fullback not centre etc but that's what it is, I'm sure we can move on. I'm glad we didn't sign him on a 4 year deal, it would've meant none of our juniors would've come through.

Speaking of juniors, I really hope the club promotes from within. I don't want to bring in anyone, give Dufty or Field a chance. They both have an X factor to win games single handedly, the one aspect Dugan lacked was his spark in attack.

Why would he waive the cooling off period? Not because he was worried about saving us worry. It shows he is not happy with the way the club has negotiated with him.

The thing for me is all the options we have for Fullback. We aren't relying on just 1 junior to fulfil their potential.

Dufty, Field, Flo, and hopefully Mann is re-signed. Hopefully next season we don't commit to anyone outside the club and try what we have first

I think our final offer was around 850k
Dugan was bagging the club for apparently giving him a lowball offer and was adamant he is a fullback not a centre
Well what an about turn
He will be right centre at the Sharks not fullback unless there is an injury
So why is it the clubs fault
I think Dugan had the shits on and that is it,took his bat and ball and went home
I don't know why people are saying it is the clubs fault
We made him offers and he did not accept and still did not get anywhere near what he wanted at the Sharks
I don't think he was ever going to re sign he just dicked the club around

Yea the club made him an offer and didn't change it since November last year. I'll back the club in that instance, good on them for sticking firm. They could've easily paid him more but then would've had to pay for that in the coming 2-3 years.

It's the same as it was with Reynolds, it's just a sign that the player has made their decision and wants to move on. Plus the dragons had made it clear their offer was final.

Otherwise it's used as a bargaining tactic. You sign with one club to ratchet up the pressure on another club for a counter offer.

I give any player credit for making a firm decision and waiving the cooling off

He is playing NSW cup and has one half of good football. Mann has played first grade for a number of years and defensively is very very good. He also can ball play and is elusive. Why wouldn't you give him first shot at fullback now?
Because Mann doesn't and hasn't played full back forever .....And Dufty has been killing it week in week out for a while not just one half . I like the fact he is a specialist fullback

When I sit back and sift through it all, I think it all came down to the fact the Club has other ideas as to fullback, Dugan wasn't in the mix and the Club weren't going to break the bank to sign him.

I don't like the way things have been drawn out, but who drew rocks and diamonds out of this little caper will become clearer over the next couple of seasons.

Hopefully it's us

Do you know what he was offered by the club? I'll go out on a limb and say probably not. Millward was the one who used the argument of centre money and Dugan responded with he is a fullback, what a natural response. This was never about Fullback or Centre, this was about a four year contract and Millward would not shift. It was not even about $1million dollars, that was an ambit claim because Millward wanted to reduce is value. Millward never really wanted to re-sign him, it was managed to get him to leave.

If anyone thinks that is good for the club they're nuts.

You nailed it. Millward is not the real deal. What a mess.

We lose Dugan for $750K a year, what are we going to pay Cody Walker or Alex Johnston? Does anyone really believe that saving $100K a year is good?

That it's only 750k makes me think it's more about the length of the contract than the cash. He is 27 now, is he still going to be effective at 30 or 31?

To me it's a show of confidence in our juniors that management has faith they will be worth the investment and didn't want to stifle them by locking up fullback for 4 years.

I don't believe its because the dragons made it clear the offer was final. I believe its because Millward made it clear he did not want Dugan.

What is it with the Sharks, when they get involved with signing one of ours the player seems to get very bitter with the Dragons - Bird, Dugan? Maybe Price is exacting his revenge.

If we are looking at Johnston and Walker as fullbacks, its obvious that the thinking is Dufty and Field may not be ready for a couple of seasons. Why not use Dugan for those years and then move him to the centres for the last two? Then amidst all of this what happens with Mann?

Kind of the same thing though. Not budging on your final offer when the player is saying they will leave if you don't

It wouldn't surprise me if Dugan took less to go to the Sharks because he felt unloved.

Either way a decision was made and waiving the cooling off makes it final. Good for both parties

Bugger that the saga has come to an end. I have nothing to whing and bitch about. I will just have to sit back, relax and watch the loving relationship between possum and Millward blossom
