lyon is a saint - you top class muppet.

Look it's simple, Salford City Reds need this new stadium to ensure that we have a future. We could stay at the Willows averaging 4000 and floating around the bottom half of the table. Instead the chairman wants to make sure Salford RLFC have a safe financial injection the only he can make this possible is by building the new stadium. The retail park, hotel and sponsorship will give us the required money to remain a professional RL team.

We know we wont fill 20,000 seats each week but we will do our best to. Look at Hull and Warringtons attendance since moving into new stadiums, a coincidence I think not. The Willows is in a bad area, it puts fans off this new stadium will influence those stay away supporters to travel.

well actually we'd alreayd got our attendances up from around 4k to 7 n half before leaving by actually getting and doing stuff in the community(4 time, 4 time, 4 time, 4 time SL community award winners) so the stadium put the icing on the attraction for us. You don't hear much about salford doing owt like that, just steve simms sounding like he'd been sniffing glue.

Kevin, maybe before you judge, get your backside over to The Willows and actually find out was the Reds are doing in the community before you butt in eh?

Salford Advertiser

A SECRET war is being waged by Manchester City Council to shatter the Reds’ plans to build a new super-stadium in Salford.

Club officials say the city council has sent representatives to Whitehall to bend the ears of MPs and decision-makers in a bid to encourage the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister to step in and quash the ambitious stadium dream.

That’s why this newspaper is backing the club’s ‘Ave it! campaign in an attempt to rally supporters behind the cause.

Manchester has launched the campaign against the £35m stadium - which would bring more than a thousand new jobs to Salford - simply to protect their city centre.

The Advertiser has learned Peter Babb, Manchester’s head of planning, has written directly to Salford’s chief planning officer Chris Findley, detailing the city’s concern about plans to open a small retail park on the stadium site which could fit into the Arndale Centre six times over.

The cash-strapped Reds say they are depending on the revenue generated by these shops to help ensure their survival.

But with Manchester’s powerbrokers threatening to torpedo their plans and leave the club’s future in tatters, we say it’s time for all of Salford to fight back and support the Reds and their bid to keep professional Rugby League alive in our city.
