Haven't we conceded the least goals?

Fantastic defence and an in-form keeper.

 RAPE!!!

It's amazing what confidence can do for a player- just look at that blinder Mrja scored from the free-kick. He would never have done that a month ago.

Mariners pin hopes on excellence centre

Central Coast Mariners will build a state of the art centre of excellence that the A-League club says will help attract the country's best talent and boost Australia's World Cup bid.

The Mariners have purchased a 12-hectare site at Tuggerah for the development, which is scheduled to begin in mid-2010 and will include two world class training pitches, a centre of excellence, a six-storey office block and sports science, pool and gymnasium facilities.

In total there will be seven full-sized pitches as well as 10 multi-purpose courts and a 120-room hotel and accommodation block.
It is hoped the development will help Football Federation Australia's bid to host the 2018 or 2022 World Cups by providing a training base for the Socceroos or visiting international teams.

"It is felt a facility such as this will put the Mariners at the forefront of attracting the best talent across Australia, and also internationally," Mariners Trust chairman Peter Turnbull said in a club statement.
"The goal is for the Mariners to become the obvious first 'club of choice' for any talented footballer.

"We also expect the facility to be very popular for international club teams to use as a base for pre-season training camps.
"All these uses will prove positive for the entire region's economy."

Over 100 members of the Wyong RSL Club voted unanimously to sell the entire assets of the Club Tuggerah site to the A-League club, with the licensed club to be leased back to the RSL.

"We thank the members of Wyong RSL club for having the vision to understand the importance of this development, both for the future of their licensed premises on the site, but also for football on the Central Coast and for the future of the community as a whole," Turnbull said.

Every time you get the ball against them, expect to be hacked. That's what happened to us on Friday night.

It is hard just to play normal football against them. Our style pf play doesn't suit that, and added to which, the pitch was in horrible condition.

We've now played them three times and each match turned in to a physical altercation. I watched them last week against Adelaide United and it was very similar.
They're not playing their best football so they're going out and roughing up everyone else. I think on Friday night they showed why they are considered the dirtiest team in the comp

He is dead right.

Mariners have long played the worst, most unattractive football in the A-League.

 Culina. What a whingeing, diving f**kwit. He's the worst in the league since Joel Griffiths. I suggest he and his team-mates and the whining GCU fans take a bag of cement dust, add some water and harden the f**k up! Pansies.

McKinna to take on new role

Tuesday, 9 February 2010
by Glen Lauder
After five successful seasons as the Central Coast Mariners foundation Football Manager, Lawrie McKinna has announced he will move into a new role within the club as its Football and Commercial Operations Manager, extending his current contract – which was due to expire at the end of the Hyundai A-League 2010/11 season – by a further year in the process.
McKinna will work side by side with the club’s new Head Coach in the running of the Football Department, and will also take on a greater role in the Football Operations and the Commercial areas of the club, which will see him actively involved in the club’s relationship with current and potential partners.
"This is a great opportunity for me," said McKinna.
"I have a commercial background from my time as a Sales Manager at Asics, and through the running of my own businesses, and the experience I have gained in being part of the formation of the Mariners alongside (Executive Chairman) Lyall (Gorman) means I know the club inside out, I know the people of the Central Coast very well, and I’m excited about the new opportunities that will present themselves within this role at the club, while still maintaining a strong presence in the football side of things."
McKinna was an instrumental part of the bid process to give the Central Coast its first ever national sporting team in the form of the Mariners in 2004, and has gone on to become one of the most successful coaches in the Hyundai A-League’s history.
The inaugural Hyundai A-League coach of the year’s honour roll includes a Hyundai A-League premiership, two grand finals, three finals series, a Pre-Season Cup, and appearances in a further Pre-Season Cup final and Club World Championship qualification final, as well as leading the Mariners through an Asian Champions League campaign in 2009.
"Lawrie is an integral part of our Club’s fabric and all it stands for, and his new role is a key part of our business focus moving forward. By extending his contract and continuing to play an important part in the future of the Mariners the club will not only continue to benefit from the tremendous intellectual property and experience that Lawrie has built up over so many years, but also provide him with the opportunity to pursue new and exciting career pathways in a game to which he has contributed so much," said Mariners Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman.
"With work on the Centre of Excellence at Tuggerah nearing commencement it is an exciting time to be a Mariners Member and Supporter, and we are delighted to know that Lawrie will continue to be a key part of our team moving forward."
Following his decision to step into a new role, the Central Coast Mariners, in consultation with McKinna, have moved to appoint current Qantas Socceroos assistant coach Graham Arnold to the position of head coach until the end of the Hyundai A-League 2012/13 season.
"Lawrie has played a significant role in bringing this appointment to fruition," said Gorman.
"I know that he looks forward to building a long and fruitful partnership with Graham."

I think the under 20s are going ok so if a few more can play like this kid we'll be a real good side as long as we can hang on to them.
