NEWCASTLE Knights playmaker Jarrod Mullen has been cleared of a season-ending pectorial-muscle tear but is facing a two-month stint on the sideline after being injured in the Knights' 8-6 win over Parramatta on Saturday night.
There were initial fears Mullen would be out for the season after leaving the field late in the first half clutching his chest.
But scans have revealed Mullen suffered a partial pectorial tear and will not require season-ending surgery.
“There’s a tear there but he hasn’t torn it off the bone so he’s looking at between six to eight weeks,’' Knights coach Rick Stone said this morning.
“He’s going to see specialist Dr Des Bokor in Sydney just to make sure.’’
Stone said given the initial fears, it is a good result for Mullen.
“He’s worked really hard and he is still going to have to work hard now to get back in good shape but it is a far sight better than being out for the rest of the season,’’he said.
