The halves situation

Well this is a very bad situation we've found ourselves in.

There's no halves combination we can put on the field right now that really fills me with a lot of confidence. Kurt seems to play like he's that one really talented kid in an U/8s team when he pulls on the 6 or 7, Beau is down on form and confidence and Roberts is unavailable.

I assume we'll field:

1. McDonnell
6. Henry
7. Gidley

At least there's no Dureau.

what happened to dureau
Named the player of the month for April and the halfback in the team of the month for April in the ESL. He has 6 wins and a draw in his last 7 ESL games and was MOTM in 5 of them. He is also top tryscorer and top point scorer for Catalans Dragons, and has a very handy lead over Steve Menzies in the Dragons player of the year vote.
French forums are wanting to sign him for life and are trying to think of ways to get rid of his Australian girlfriend so they can marry him off to a French girl and sign him up for France.

How's his missed tackle count going? Leading that as well?

I was an original Dureau fan, but in the end he was too slow and not great defensively. And he was getting worse with each game towards the end of his tenure.

I do believe he has a decent footy brain on him, he always tried creative things with his kicking game, didn't always come off.

I think Brian Smith kind of ruined him a bit too, possibly any other coach and he could have been a tad more successful.

Definitely can kick a ball. Definitely a massive liability in defence in the NRL. Just had a look at his missed tackle stats - 40 so far. (fourth on list)

Don't mind seeing:

1. Pete
6. Beau
7. Kidley
9. De Gois

Until Roberts is back then:

1. Pete
6. Henry
7. Roberts
9. Kidley
14. De Gois

Don't know if I should start another thread but maybe we should have a Henry vs Roberts poll?

I feel Henry doesn't want the ball enough. He does not seem enthusiastic and he just is out there to make numbers. Roberts wants the ball, runs onto the ball and really looks like he is trying to make something happen. I would say that at the moment Roberts is in front for the no.6 jersey.

Good to hear he is going well.

Good to hear he is going well.
He returned from injury and led Catalans to a good win (42-22 over Wakefield) overnight. He didn't get MOTM, but kicked 5 goals and had two try assists.
He took about a month to find his feet, but since that time Catalans have got points from every game he has played and lost the 3 games when he didn't play (they did lose a challenge cup game with him present, but that's a different comp).
In many of those games he had a brilliant 7/6 combination going with fellow Knights junior and 2004 Ball premiership team mate Ben Farrar, but Ben is aparently back in Aus with a season ending knee injury.
In a funny co-incidence, I noticed the other day that Luke Dureau and Mark Farrar (their brothers) are currently playing reserve grade for Wests Rosellas.

edit - just read the official match report and Scott got his 6th MOTM award for the season. He now leads the poll 24 points to Ian Henderson 11 and Steve Menzies 8 (Menzies has been injured for a while)

DT website has Stone quoted as saying 6-8 weeks on the sidelines for Mullen. Partial pectorial tear.

Nice! Pretty much the best outcome we could've hoped for :D

Scan softens the blow for injured Knights star Jarrod Mullen

NEWCASTLE Knights playmaker Jarrod Mullen has been cleared of a season-ending pectorial-muscle tear but is facing a two-month stint on the sideline after being injured in the Knights' 8-6 win over Parramatta on Saturday night.
There were initial fears Mullen would be out for the season after leaving the field late in the first half clutching his chest.
But scans have revealed Mullen suffered a partial pectorial tear and will not require season-ending surgery.
“There’s a tear there but he hasn’t torn it off the bone so he’s looking at between six to eight weeks,’' Knights coach Rick Stone said this morning.
“He’s going to see specialist Dr Des Bokor in Sydney just to make sure.’’
Stone said given the initial fears, it is a good result for Mullen.
“He’s worked really hard and he is still going to have to work hard now to get back in good shape but it is a far sight better than being out for the rest of the season,’’he said.

Wow that's awesome news then!

We've been shocking of late as a team, but fact is we're only out of the 8 by for and against.

If the team applies themselves I'm confident we can still make it and then get a good run with towards the end with some healthy players.

Who is meant to come back this year now anyway?

MacDougall - I wouldn't pick him though, just can't.
Sau
Cory Paterson
Zeb - Is he officially ruled out for the season?
Mullen

And that's all of them right?

You'd think it would only be 6 weeks seeing it's Mullo. The bloke regularly comes back early from injury.

tbh, i think he's just hard as nails and plays early regardless. he has played a lot of footy injured for us over the years. he doesn't exactly put his body on the line like some of the smaller blokes in the comp week on week... but Mullo definitely grits his teeth and bears it often as far as injury goes.

hopefully see him back in 6... and hopefully his head is right when he comes back.

Too quick for ya Billy!!!

Makes me think now if it is worth giving someone like Stig a chance and leaving Gids at the back so we don't have to see Junior Burger in the red and blue. It might only be 5 games of footy before Mullo is back.

no way i would put Stig in ahead of Mata'utia at the moment. also hard to drop Lulia. has to be either

1. Wes
6. Henry
7. Gids

or

1. Mata'utia
6. Henry
7. Gids

for mine. there's form there already to go off. no need to throw an unknown in at the moment, we have proven options. i wouldn't be dropping Henry just yet, but a few more weeks of nothing should see him back with the Centurions to find some form.

My bad - forgot Sau is probably due back so Wes could shimmy nicely into fb with Gids at half.

Our match against the Cows in round 18 is at home in exactly 6 weeks time (MNF). See you then, Mullo.
