Who is your fullback for next year?

From what I've gathered these are the candidates:

Josh Hoffman
Denan Kemp
Gerard Beale
Dale Copley
Dane Gagai
Todd Murphy

Out of those, I'd like to see Hoffman get given the first shot. Give him a full off-season (which he's yet to have) and a few trials before we look else where.

This will be one of Henjak's real tests. Hunt was such a pivotal part of our side. Will Henjak look for an exact replica to fill Hunt's spot as the third playmaker or will he devise a new gameplan?

Copley is not a canditate for fullback any longer. He was half way through last year.

Gagai, please you are kidding.

Hoffman will get first crack.

Hodges is still in the mix to finish in the 1 jersey.

Kemp should get the first shot, if he can recapture the form of 2 years ago he will be electric back there with plent of room to move.

kemp is in the slater mould with his speed and footwork..i like both hoffman and kemp, although ill admit to not having watched much of beale but have heard great things

As if you wouldn't put Kemp ahead of Yow Yeh or Winterstein. He is the best winger at the club, equal with Israel.

I was basing the list on an interview with Peter Nolan who mentioned those players.

He even went as far to say Copley is a natural fullback.

I agree with your assesment especially on Gagai. In time I think he'll be a handy winger but he needs another year or two in the reserves before he can be blooded.

Beale is a much better option than Hoffman IMO. Beale was super under the high ball against Manly on his debut whilst Hoffman was rubbish under the high ball in his game for the Broncos. Kemp is my choice but I will settle for Beale in the 1 and Kemp on the wing.

Well I disagree with Nolan's assessment. Copley is a hole runner, a real good one. Full backs these days run on the edges. Copley at fullback is best suited to play like a Brett Mullins / Greame Langlands style full back - but that is not how full backs play these days.

The Broncos played Copley against the Sharks for his debut and he had a shocker. I don't think he is suited there.

1. Hodges (doesn't seem to do much at centre anymore, needs more space)
2. Kemp (better than Winterstein)
3. Falou (better get involved more)
4. Michaels (hopefully he's been learning how to read in defence over summer), otherwise Glenn
5. Yee Yow

I'm leaning towards your way of thinking.

Hodges is playing well, but to me needs an injection of enthusiasm ... I've never been keen for him to play fullback, but watching Hayne this year, Hodges could be just as potent.

And also agree about Michaels. There's plenty around who wouldn't want him back, but he's got the basic ingredients of a class player. If he gets his positional defensive play in order, he'll do well.

You like that Beads? By the way, I love your banner thing. It's gun as!

Anyone who thinks Hodges doesn't do much in the centres these days has obviously only watched the 4 nations.

Hodges is getting on a bit and is far too good in defence as a centre for the Broncos. Having Folau on one side and Hodges on the other side makes our backline very strong. Kemp for fullback he will unleash fury on all teams next season.

Well said Beads, and any backline should not include duds like Steve Michaels or Hoffman!

Hoffman has been judged too harshly over a game where he had continuous pressure in a young team pressured by the state of origin weekend, plus the whole mid season slump. Give him a few games before people make judgement on him.

Fair call, Hoffman may turnout to be a decent fullback but I see Kemp and Beale as far better players now and in the future. Also from what I saw the coaching staff were trying to mould Hoffman into a cutie style fullback and that just won't work IMO. Time for a change down back IMO try some pace and agility instead of ball playing ability.

I'd take any of them at the Cowboys. When your wing options are John Williams, Ty Williams, Michael Bani and Ash Graham, you start to wonder where the tries will come from...

To answer your question though, my vote goes to Hodges. Kemp had a great season at the Broncos in 2008. David Williams and Chris Sandow also had great debut seasons....

Kemp is a winger, nothing more nothing less. I'd be looking at Winterstein or Glenn to replace Hodges in the centres.

1. Hodges
2. Kemp
3. Folau
4. Glenn/Winterstein
5. Yow Yeh
6. Lockyer
7. Wallace

14. Ben Hunt/Tim Smith

Plenty of points in that backline AND you can ease Hunt into first grade. Hoffman is very, very average and Kemp is a specialist winger.
