Same thing happened at Penrith for Elliott as well, but wonder why Mannering didn't approach him or the entire leadership group

Same. I had this nice tidy vision of Elliot seeing out 2014, hopefully making the 8, and a flash new coach taking over in 2015 with Elliot moving into some kind of media / manager role. He's a smart, media-savvy guy. Pity to lose him entirely.

The way I see it is this. Our current predicament is probably about 33% players accountable (at least), 33% coaching, and 33% management. Yet for some reason each year the team sacks the coach and then carries on business as usual with management and players, and nothing ever changes.

I'm not sad to see ME go. He's never been a good coach at any club and the owners were delusional to think he'd be different here.

But, this coaching change must be followed by management changes, and a serious look at the players.

And for god sake don't hire another loser coach. Get a good hard-nosed coach who won't take any shit and will demand respect and performance, or don't get anyone at all.
