For the record I wouldn't have reed there. I would havd copely in centre with hoffman on the wing. Copely was goinv great at centre till f**k knuckle Griffin shunted him to the wing. We have the players but not the coach. Also I think very highly of your coach. I reckon swap coaches and you could probably swap teams on the ladder. Des uses tactics that play to his teams strengths, Griffin ...well not even god knows what Griffin is doing.

I could understand the rumours of him going to Roosters or Bulldogs, teams that are winning and have good squads.

But Canberra?

What did they offer? 2 million a year?

Canberra have a severely limited squad. The Roosters and Dogs have top 4 quality squads. Even Easts have a limit to how much they can spend. And they're getting Fergy.

Canberra can and will outbid anyone.

especially if Cornish is even a decent NRL standard half

Im always reminded about something my father in law once told me about being a good captain in cricket. I think it probably rings pretty true in coaching too... he said "the easiest way to be a great captain, is to have a great team"

Lots of average and flat out bad coaches have had success in sports because their team is good. Stuart will be a much better coach when he's got a much better team. Those moves would make us a much better team

So does Hagan. Both coaches walked into premiership teams in their first year, after that it went downhill fast for both coaches once they had to build teams themselves. Stuarts club coaching record started with a bang in 2002. After that it has been a speedy downhill slide for every team he has coached. The Raiders poor culture just helped speed that process up.

Hagan also made another GF and was beaten by cheats. Wayne Bennett is a master coach and can't get it done at Newcastle, because their squad is busted. Tim Sheens has won 4 grand finals. Do you think he won them with superior coaching, or do you think having Stuart-Daley-Clyde-Walters-Meninga-Farah and Benji before he turned shit played a pretty big role in those?

Is Toovey a super-star coach, or does he just have a super-star team? How about Bellemy? Do you reckon they win premierships without Foran, DCE, Slater, Smith, Cronk, etc?
How about McGuire, would he be the coach he is if he didnt have Inglis and Burgess?
Much better coach than Stuart, no premierships though.

Playing talent has infinitely greater impact on success than coaching IMO. Hopefully next year the Raiders are are more talented playing group

Dude seriously have a look at all the premiership teams and few and far between don't have that big name player, some have a couple, some are lucky and have 4 or 5. They will always be there.

On Bennett and the Knights, he walked into a bigger rabble than he did at the Dragons, look what he did with the Dragons. Look at what happened the second Bennett left the Dragons, they slid downhill fast.
