Actually, Doust is appointed by the board and is ultimately answerable to them.

The actions of Sean O'Connor are almost unheard of. The Illawarra agenda theory was given a lot of air when he went to the media re McGregor. That said, it wouldn't surprise me if he did more harm than good to McGregor's chances.

Indeed. His comments, coupled with the handful of media articles that mention the divide in our board, highlight the fact that the Illawarra side of the board are the ones creating this divide and pushing their agenda. Not sure If its true, but it definitely the impression.

This will put pressure on Doust and the board to question the appointment of Mary, particularly if he doesnt acheive a great result. It will seem as though he is only there to appease the Illawarra club.

I think it definitely hurts his chances. And thats a good thing, I am 100% behind him not being our coach next year!

Don't be surprised if Nathan Brown ends up as coach of the Wests Tigers in 2015. Potter is on the outer and Brian Smith has done a review of the clubs coaching structure & they are old mates from Dragons days. I don't know if there's any truth to stories that Doust & Brownie had a falling out & don't get on anymore. Anyone heard anything that supports Brownies reluctance to return to the Dragons ?

Browny is returning to live back in the Shire ,but heard he won't come back to us.Surprised he wasn't linked to the scum btw.

Sheens, Brown, Griffin, Smith or Henry would be good for our Club at this point in time.

I really don't think the Club has any intention of recruiting Smith.

It's been strongly rumoured that Henry will coach the Titans.

So right now we still have Sheens, Brown, Griffin and Mary in contention. It would be nice if some of these so called sports reporters would ask each of these guys the question. Mary has put his hand up and we really have no indication about the others.

Who knows, there might even be a dark horse like Millward or Daley in the race.

A Sheens/Parish, Brown/Mary, or Griffin/Cleary combination would be good for the Club at this point in time.

A Daley/Mary or Millward/Mary combination would be a risky experiment.

Dear Mr Doust, Mary is the man

THE Dragons need to be decisive because fortune favours the brave.
Sometimes the most obvious decision to make — and the right person to give a job to — is right there front of you.
The Dragons tried to lure Wayne Bennett for a second stint. The Brisbane Broncos convinced Bennett to return to native Queensland and gazumped the Dragons at the last minute.
For the past eight weeks, Paul McGregor, 46, nicknamed "Mary," the former Illawarra and St George Illawarra centre, has been in the driver's seat.
Steve Price got sacked, McGregor was his assistant and took over as interim boss. Let's make him the head Dragon now. No more stuffing around.
No need for Dragons chief Peter Doust to court external appointments. Forget the options of Tim Sheens, Neil Henry and whoever else was on the list after Bennett.
McGregor is the man. It's not just because the players like him, they respect him as a man, as a football coach. They are impressed with his intellect and the way he communicates. Listen to McGregor speak at a press conference or when he's interviewed, he knows the game, He speaks clearly and simply, not in coach speak, he doesn't jibber.
So get the deal done, give him some certainty and McGregor can concentrate on trying to steer the Dragons to the finals this season and then prepare for the off-season ahead and 2015 and beyond. Give him a three-year deal.

Mary has done alright, he's done pretty good even, but it would be crazy to sign him up after just a bunch of games and would be a clear indication that the board has not learnt a thing. Against tough opposition Mary has not won, Souths, Penrith and Manly, his best win was against a depleted Storm minus Cooper Cronk. Yes he has done well but is no where near a sure thing yet.

THIS ^^^^^^^

Pretty short sighted view by the club if they give him 3 years, based on the last 2 months, smacks of having put all their eggs in one basket with Bennett then taking the easy, and possibly only option of McGregor .

The side has improved under McGregor but FMD they couldn't have got much worse than the way they played under PRICE, so McGregor looks good because they have come off such a low base ,but worldbeaters they aren't.

People forget we are running 12th with little chance of playing finals. I hardly think we should be just hiring Mary without seriously looking elsewhere

Just bad timing for mcgregor. Perhaps he was the coach we needed after Bennett in 2012, instead of price. We have already used our "internal job for the boys/rookie" card on price, hence next coaching appointment cannot be risked on another rookie. It will surely spell the end for doust if Mary doesn't work out.
Yet if he appoints an experienced coach, and the experienced coach fails, doust will do his Pontius Pilate monologe, "you see, I did what you supporters wanted and we still failed."

Why don't we appoint the best man AVAILABLE for the job to steer us through 3 wasted years of Steve Price - another rookie coach which EVERY player supported and "played" for when appointed and then re-signed AGAIN on Anzac Day last year!

Mary is the best available of previously unsacked coaches.
Why would we want a sacked reject coach? If Price failed with us and other coaches failed elsewhere what is the difference?

Just relaying what I heard from a mate who knows Browny, perhaps you can put some intelligent input to the discussion instead of being an idiot.

My input on this forum has been just as valid as most idiotic inputs inluding yours.

I don't go around saying we signed this dude and that dude, the classic is I saw x shopping around For a house in suburb y.
My wish list over the last 2 season has paid off, getting Dugan, getting Marshall and Price getting the sack.
My wish is for Brown, Mary and David Waite for the coaching positions next year...a massive improvement from Price, Mary and Craig Young.

A big no for me for Sheens or B Smith.
They are dinosaurs. In a way I'm glad we did not sign Bennett.
I would consider Brown or T Smith.
If we can't get them Mary on a 1 year contract.

Would love to have Nathan Brown back as our coach. Knows the set up and culture of the whole organisation (and fans expectation), and is so much more experienced. Ideal man

I can clearly remember Brown having the ability to rebuild a team and closely winning a comp including some high profile wankers, this guy will bring more joy than sorrow, he says no, but offering a 5 year contract, he will not say no to that.
