I get where you're coming from with the other teams you mentioned there but Souths?? they havent achieved shit let alone managed to feature in a GF since before my mother was born! How do they enter into any conversation about "certainties" for anything but failure?

Roosters, Manly, Storm have all made, won and lost plenty of big matches (GF's included) in recent history, they're powerhouse clubs that all other clubs aspire to emulate. Souths are a club full of hot air and hype who havent actually done anything to warrant being included in the same class as those teams. And dont get me wrong, i hate Manly and the Roosters, i dont like the Storm either but with so many QLDers i cant hate them, but these are clubs you have to respect so hate them or not you want your club to achieve what theyve been able to achieve in recent times.

Souths though??

Please..

I completely agree with you.

But why you've missed the point, it's not what they've achieved, it's having this idea of them being certainties even during poor periods for the entire season and so when Grand Final day rolls around, I switch off because the crap they're going on about I've heard for months. What interests me as a neutral is seeing teams who have defied everything the "experts" have put out. Yes, they're teams who do deserve to be there if they make it, absolutely, but when you have a ladder like this year when suddenly the tune changes from four to two with the other two "expected to fire". Look at Penrith and the Cowboys; between now and the finals, do you think they'll be put on the same level as Souths and Manly? Of course not.

When it comes to Souths, yes, they haven't achieved anything for so many and their form is good enough to make it, however, we're hearing about them being certainties even before a ball is kicked. I'm simply tired of hearing about it. It isn't anti-Souths, I've had nothing really bad to say about them for the past two weeks and even after tonight, but that hype for me places them in that group.

There's always a couple of teams that get hyped by the media. Best course of action is to ignore them (media, that is). I hope Souths win because their long-suffering fans deserve it. No other set of fans who have waited a while have been through anywhere near as much shit as they have (except maybe Cronulla). Anyone who would begrudge them the joy of finally seeing their team win is a dickhead.

I'd be happy for Souths fans, but there are plenty that don't deserve to see it happen.

The arrogance from so many is simply too much.

I wouldn't expect a single Souths fan to have been happy watching us win last year and I doubt there is a souths fan alive who'd expect any Easts fan to enjoy watching them win a comp either.

Why would I have to be happy for any team other than my own to win the comp?

Might be easier to support them if they took a harsher stance on some of the d*ckheads on their team, guys bashing their GF's is hardly a good look for the game. That plus i just enjoy a good lol@souffs and i don't want to see the likes of Burgess get a premiership.

I feel kinda but because my housemate is a huge fan (drives down to watch them every week) and she's pretty awesome but that's just not enough lol.

I'd like to see them make the GF then lose 40 - 0.

The most satisfying part of that was when they flashed up a crying Israel Folau at the end of the match and the entire crowd booed him. Even better than Beaver scoring in his final match .

This season reeks of 2005. It's going to be a side completely out of the blue imo.

Watching the likes of eels cowboys and warriors and how readily they can turn it on made me feel it'll be like 05.

Yep. I've been saying for 5/6 weeks now, any team that can put a couple weeks together at the right time could win it.

That's been the case in the NRL for years. Parramatta '09, Warriors '11. Could have been Canberra in 2010 if T Campese hadn't got injured. And who would have thought that Newcastle would have gone so deep in to the Finals Series last year?

He's taking the piss, any team has to put a couple of good ones together to win the gf
