Play-off for third

How about having a third place play-off?

Let the two Grand Finalists have two weeks off to recuperate from injuries.

And have the 3rd place play-off on the weekend before the Grand Final.

I know fans would say it would be a bit hard for the teams to get up again and their mindset wouldn't be in for it for a third place award.

I guess it's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick...

Dunno about extending the season another week, maybe play it on the friday night before the GF, it could pick the third club for an expanded world club challenge.

Sure but instead of a meaningless match, this is when the All-Star game should be played a la the NFL.

My first reaction is who cares about third. You may as well come last. It would only work if third place had some meaningful benefit, such as the Top 3 teams get to play in a round robin tournament against Super League Top 3 in the pre- season, with the winner getting an obscene amount of prize money.

I don't think it's a good idea. You would stop the grand finalists momentum.

If the grand finalists won week 1 and got a week off as they do, another week after the prelim off and the GF teams would be rusty.

I don't think teams would bother that much about it. Just for example the Soccer World Cup the players and coaches are normally not that bothered. The match doesn't have too much meaning once you've missed the big one.

If your club has finished 8th you would probably be happy to play a 3 v 4 considering you were expected to be eliminated straight away.

I'm sure some fans might like it. But I think most don't give a stuff!

If ticket prices were a lot lower then people would be interested. Say $40 for category 1 not $100.

Who comes 3rd, 4th, 5th etc is pretty inconsequential because there's only one real prize in the NRL. It's not like European Soccer where it can be the difference between making the Champions League or not.

third is irrelevent. i dont think the all stars match should be played then either as it takes away the momentum of the premiership. 3rd,4th,5th etc no one cares cos you didnt make the gf
