Ratings would have been much better if it was the Titans v Knights.

Too many Sydney teams of course.

Decent figures from the West considering it is buried on gem with zero promotion on Nine. One day we may get a TV deal that shows the game properly nationally then the figures really will be huge!

NRL Commission, were desperate to renew contract for most cash. It seems little or no consideration was given on how the game would be broadcast!!!
Surely this can't occur again....

Massive ratings, awesome to see. I was thinking the AFL would slightly beat us in the GF because Sydney were involved but i wonder how the scoreline impacted that. The people i know who showed a slight interest (basically the only time of year) just switched it off because the swans were getting belted.

Obviously it won't. Sacrifices had to be made to get rid of nines first and last rights. Next time around we won't be going into negotiations with that looming over our heads.

Certainly no better than "decent".

I don't get the "buried on Gem argument" is it that much harder to punch two numbers into your remote?

Did you know that the AFL Semi Finals are also "buried" on 7 mate in the Northern States.

If there aren't 50K RL fans in Perth wanting to tune into a big game like Friday without Channel 9 promoting it every 5 minutes, then FFS they aren't ready for expansion yet.

So the NRL prelims wiped the floor with the AFL prelims.......nothing new really only this time the margin was wider then previous years.

Also the AFLGF with the swans did not rate as well as they would have hoped.

About 3.8million viewers nationally which is the lowest ratings swans GF game to date.

SOO 4.2m game 2 + NZ 4.3m.

500k more then the AFL's dream GF with the swans involved.

Couple of things with that, nobody flicks to gem to see what's on so you don't get any casual sports fan and with no promotion nobody except the RL die hards knows its on, even the casual RL fan wouldn't have prob thought about it and promotion every 5mins? There was zero promotion, absolutely nothing on nine or gem all week.Secondly as most RL fans in the west were starved of fta covg for many years a lot, including me, watch it on fox, thirdly the statistical methodology for TV ratings is so poor it could have been anywhere from 10-100k!

With no team here NRL has no relevance to the majority of west Australians, 50k is decent some neutral afl games get sub 100k TV audience in the west.

If you want to be critical of the figures can you tell me why 3.8million Sydney people didn't watch it given its two Sydney teams playing the main sport of the city? A dockers v eagles semi would get a hell of a lot more than 20% of Perth watching!

So no one in Perth watches ABC 24, Sky News, Today show, Sunrise etc which talks about all the football codes?

I just don't get how you can be in such a vaccum that you don't know the game is on, unless you have zero interest in any sports...

If you have even the most minute interest in the sport, you would have to know that a weekend in September must mean Finals football in the 2 codes...

Not really, you don't realise how buried NRL is here. I have a mate at work, big dockers fan and loves his cricket and sport generally. On Friday afternoon chatting about the weekend and mentioned I was leaving early to get home for a beer and the game. Upon hearing it was on he said when he got home he would catch second half. He had no idea but knew of the rabbitohs and this peaked his interest because they have become known here through bringing games for a few years and getting in the paper. NRL ion these far flung places isn't like afl in Sydney, unfortunately the NRL has totally neglected the affiliated states and the states have responded accordingly.

On the plus side there are 50-100k RL fans here, 20k willing to pay to go to games. Enough foundation to build something strong.

I think the best that Perth can expect is for the game to be shown on Gem.

It's what the AFL gets here in Sydney, and a massive step up to have some live FTA coverage these last couple of years so I suspect you are grateful for that at least...

I doubt they will ever show a semi game live on the main channel, as the AFL will never be shown again on the main channel in Sydney during prime time.

Sydney ratings for the AFL yesterday were the lowest for a GF involving the Swans ever and by a long long way.
