you hope ...

i think that Ricky is getting desperate for a high profile signing after so many rejections this year... and to do it he may be prepared to fork out that cash...

having said that i expect him to go to the Bulldogs

I know for a fact that Ricky Stuart was very happy with Jack Wighton's work at fullback late in our season. He'll be happy if he has to go into 2015 as Wighton as fullback, which free's up a centre spot for another of his favourites - Brenko Lee

it's paper/managers talk, trying to drum up a hot market, Stuart is desperate for quality players and he could easily throw HUGE money at Brett Stewart, but he's not going to over pay Josh effing Hoffman, considering he's only marginally better than Wighton.

We might sign Hoffman, we might not. Im really confident we wont be north of 500k a year for him. I'd say if we sign him, it will be in the 450-500k range

450k is double what he's worth

I think he's a 350k a year player in today's 7mil salary cap
we'll be paying overs, because that's what teams who run 15th have to do, but he's not going to get 600k a year, Stuart wants cap space to throw at REAL superstars. He's not going to waste it on an above average fullback

What are Raiders fans thoughts on the rumored million dollar package that Stuart is putting together for Hoffman.

Apparently about 600k under the cap ... double his Broncos wage

Its Badel and the courier mail. Its almost certainly made up. Plus you have added the "under the cap" part yourself.

Remember Locky's contract had only $250K attributed to the cap with the balance paid by 3rd party deals.

These 3rd party deals are a joke.

Ummm does anyone know what a Bronco's player salary really is?

"Under the cap"

Fine for some.

yes i did, because Badel was talking about a $1 million dollar package ... not even Ricky Stuart is stupid enough to offer Hoffman $1 million under the cap ... the 600k figure they talk about later in the article is the amount they are saying will be under the cap (even if the don't spell it out)

Lockyer also has a good portion of his contract covered under the long serving players allowence.

What about the Roosters? Bulldogs? Manly?

People tell us we have a crap team, but apparently we are paying overs for it. About the only players anyone outside the Broncos rate these days are Parker, Hunt and McGuire.

Hey, you are the ones always prattling on about 3rd party deals.

All I am saying is there is a cap then there are 3rd party deals. Bronco's have a massive 3rd party market to play with so who knows what players are getting.

Thoroughbreds.....

Well that makes the whole article even more laughable.

You do realise the long serving player allowance is not very much,I think $50k a player with a max of 3 players for $150k,unless they upgraded, but that would be after Locky retired.
So your statement doesn't hold much weight,Locky would have been exempt $50k under the cap,so he would have been on $300k.

Have any of you salary cap experts actually read the NRL salary cap page?

http://www.nrl.com/nrlhq/referencecentre/salarycap/tabid/10434/default.aspx

Unlimited - Players can earn unlimited amounts from corporate sponsors who are not associated with the club and who do not use the game's intellectual property (no club logos, jerseys or emblems) provided these are pre-approved. These agreements may not be negotiated by the club as an incentive for a player to sign a contract, nor can they be guaranteed by the club.

But yeah, it's the Broncos fault hey. Nothing wrong with the system at all.

In 2015 it will be 250k for players who have played 6 years for the club, I don't think there's a max limit on players or how much each player gets anymore.

Canberra should be chucking as much money as possible at Merrin. f**k Hoffman, Whighton showed enough promise at the back last year for them and Rapana is a competent back up.

The grey area being that they are not to be negotiated by a club as an incentive for a player to sign. We all know this doesn't happen.

Thanks for that,I just know from my team that is what it was around the time Locky was playing.
